Geospatial Analysis Specialist

Role overview

This remote contract position is designed for a geospatial professional who can contribute domain expertise to the development of AI systems. The focus is on using real-world spatial knowledge to help improve how models learn, reason, and perform. Prior AI experience is not required.

Core responsibilities

• Build, organize, and support spatial databases while keeping data reliable, accurate, and consistent across assignments.
• Perform advanced geoprocessing and spatial modelling work in QGIS and turn the outputs into practical insights.
• Create, adapt, and maintain QGIS plugins and extensions according to project needs.
• Use Python and PyQGIS to automate geospatial workflows for better speed, repeatability, and efficiency.
• Produce polished maps and visual presentations for reports, stakeholder discussions, and decision support.
• Work closely with cross-functional teammates to interpret requirements and convert them into geospatial solutions.
• Explain technical concepts clearly in both spoken and written form to technical as well as non-technical audiences.

Required qualifications

• Hands-on expertise in QGIS, including spatial database handling, geoprocessing, and map creation.
• Strong Python programming ability, especially for automating QGIS tasks through PyQGIS.
• Good understanding of coordinate systems, projections, and spatial data conversion.
• Ability to customize QGIS through scripting or plugin development.
• Excellent communication skills for different types of audiences.
• Ability to create professional cartographic outputs for a range of decision-making purposes.
• Strong planning and organization skills with careful attention to detail while juggling multiple priorities.

Preferred background

Experience in remote or distributed teams, especially when supporting external clients, is considered an advantage. Familiarity with other open-source GIS tools or cloud-based geospatial platforms is also useful. Experience applying spatial analysis in fields such as environmental science, urban planning, or resource management would be beneficial.
