This role is with Awana, a worldwide Christian ministry focused on helping children and young people grow in faith through discipleship led by caring adults. With more than 75 years of experience, the organization works alongside local churches in the United States and internationally to equip leaders who disciple children and youth. About the role

The Graphic Designer I will join a creative team and help develop visual materials that support brand communication and outreach. The position involves producing digital and print assets such as layouts, icons, campaign visuals, and photo-based compositions while working within current design standards and tools. The designer will coordinate with internal stakeholders, freelancers, and outside vendors to deliver polished work for audiences that include children, youth, parents, church leaders, and ministry partners. This is mainly a remote position, with occasional travel to offices in St. Charles, Illinois, or Nashville, Tennessee, for meetings and special projects.

Key responsibilities

Create visual content including layouts, icons, and digital imagery to support design needs.
Develop assigned projects using existing templates and brand guidelines, while contributing ideas when concept work is needed.
Carry out image adjustments, formatting, and final file preparation for both print and digital use.
Help expand campaign concepts across several channels while keeping branding consistent.
Prepare print-ready and production-ready files, including PDFs, for review and vendor output.
Flag possible design or production concerns early and communicate them to senior teammates.
Work within project schedules and complete assigned tasks on time to support deadlines.
Keep design files and assets organized and follow team workflows and best practices.
Take part in reviews, brainstorming discussions, and feedback sessions.
Partner with cross-functional teams to support ministry resources, outreach, and related initiatives.
Represent the organization’s values in internal and external communication and relationships.
Handle other duties as needed to support ministry goals.

Requirements

At least 2 years of proven experience in graphic design or visual communication.
Hands-on ability with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Lightroom.
Solid understanding of design fundamentals such as typography, color, layout, and composition.
Experience preparing files for print and digital production, including preflight review.
Capability to produce basic to intermediate-level graphics such as layouts, icons, and digital assets.
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related area is preferred, though not mandatory.
Prior exposure to working with printers and external vendors is an advantage.
Strong organizational habits for managing design files and assets.
Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
Familiarity with the Christian faith and with the organization’s mission and resources is helpful.
Must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not provided.
