About the Role

Modest Tree is a data-focused digital transformation company that builds advanced tools to help organizations capture, organize, and reuse training and operational data. Its software products use immersive 3D and interactive technology to speed up enterprise training and operational intelligence.

The company works with major OEMs, defence groups, and enterprise customers, delivering consulting, services, and digital solutions that support modern technical training and operational support programs. It is looking for an Intermediate Business Development Representative to join the business development and customer engagement team and help drive growth in enterprise technology, defence innovation, and solution-led software sales.

This position is best suited to someone with prior sales or business development experience who enjoys working with technical products, customer conversations, product demonstrations, and market expansion across defence, aerospace, marine, and industrial sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Find, assess, and actively pursue new business leads in defence, aerospace, marine, industrial, and broader enterprise markets.
  • Run outbound outreach campaigns using email, phone, LinkedIn, events, and other online engagement channels.
  • Review inbound and outbound prospects to understand needs, project size, and possible sales fit.
  • Take part in software demos and customer-facing presentations for prospects and partners.
  • Research organizations, programs, procurement activity, and emerging opportunities in target industries.
  • Keep lead, customer, and opportunity records current in the CRM system.
  • Manage follow-ups, information requests, capability discussions, and other relationship-building activities with prospects and clients.
  • Work with internal technical and delivery teams to support customer requirements and proposal work.
  • Assist with customer onboarding and help maintain onboarding, training, and support materials.
  • Support trade shows, conferences, industry events, and customer meetings or site visits.
  • Stay in regular contact with prospective and current customers to build long-term relationships.
  • Track software renewals, support contracts, and expiry dates, and help with renewal follow-up.
  • Contribute to identifying partnership and teaming opportunities in target markets.
  • Help expand the company’s customer base and overall market reach.

Requirements

  • Must be based in Halifax, Nova Scotia and able to work in a hybrid on-site arrangement, or based in Ottawa, Ontario and able to work remotely with periodic travel.
  • Strong enthusiasm for enterprise software sales, customer engagement, and business development.
  • Excellent people skills, communication ability, and relationship-building strength.
  • Comfort presenting technology solutions to both technical and executive audiences.
  • Self-driven with solid organization and time-management habits.
  • Able to quickly understand complex software products and explain technical ideas clearly.
  • Results-oriented and comfortable handling several opportunities at the same time.
  • Strong attention to detail and a collaborative working style.
  • Interest in defence, aerospace, marine, simulation, or industrial technology is preferred.
  • Degree or diploma in Business, Marketing, Technology, Engineering, or a related area.
  • Several years of experience in sales, business development, or customer engagement.
  • Background supporting enterprise software, SaaS, simulation, or other technical solutions.
  • Experience using CRM tools such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with government, defence, industrial, or technical customers is an asset.
  • Prior exposure to proposals, customer demos, or trade events is an asset.
  • Must be eligible for Canadian Security Clearance at Reliability Status or Secret level.
  • Canadian citizenship or permanent residency may be required.

What We Offer

  • A flexible hybrid work model.
  • The chance to work with advanced immersive and 3D training technology.
  • Exposure to global enterprise clients and top OEM organizations.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and career development.
  • A competitive salary and full benefits package.
  • A collaborative and innovative team environment.

Security Clearance

Because this work involves defence and government clients, candidates must be able to obtain Canadian Security Clearance at the Reliability Status or Secret level. Canadian citizenship or permanent residency may also be required.

Location

Halifax, Nova Scotia is the preferred location. Ottawa, Ontario is also an option for remote work with periodic travel.
