Role overview
Prochem Engineering is recruiting a Junior Maintenance Planner for a busy pharmaceutical manufacturing site in County Kildare, Ireland. This role focuses on careful, forward-looking maintenance planning and scheduling, with the planner acting as the main coordination point between engineering, technicians, stores, and production teams.
What you will be doing
You will organize preventative and corrective maintenance work, build weekly and daily schedules, and help ensure maintenance tasks are executed in the right order based on safety, asset importance, backlog levels, and operational priorities. You will also support shutdown planning, maintain accurate CMMS records, coordinate parts availability, and help improve maintenance processes through data review.
Core duties
- Develop and keep up to date the plan for preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
- Prepare weekly and daily maintenance schedules.
- Work with the Plant Engineer to rank jobs by safety, asset criticality, backlog, and site needs.
- Check approved, confirmed, and in-planning work orders every day.
- Make sure each work order has a defined scope, priority, expected duration, and required parts.
- Keep CMMS records accurate and compliant.
- Coordinate with stores so that parts and consumables are available before jobs are scheduled.
- Pre-kit work where possible and highlight long-lead or special-order items to engineers or procurement.
- Source parts, collect quotations for purchases, and raise purchase orders when needed.
- Maintain standard job plans for routine preventive maintenance tasks.
- Update the CMMS whenever required.
- Attach drawings, OEM manuals, and service reports to the CMMS.
- Support shutdown planning by helping sequence work and aligning cross-functional resources.
- Book vendors for engineering shutdown work and confirm that inductions, RAMS, and method statements are in place.
- Review CMMS information such as PM compliance, backlog ageing, and schedule adherence.
- Spot trends and improvement opportunities in maintenance processes.
- Recommend changes to PM frequency, task content, and work instructions.
- Attend daily and weekly planning meetings and contribute to them.
- Share schedule updates and job priorities with technicians and managers.
- Escalate delays, resource clashes, or unfinished work to the Technician Manager.

Requirements
The ideal candidate should hold a bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, or Business. You should be comfortable building and managing maintenance schedules across preventive, corrective, and shutdown work, understand basic asset requirements and task durations, and be confident communicating with technicians, engineers, stores, and operations. Strong capability in CMMS platforms, Excel, and digital planning tools is essential, along with the ability to balance urgent and planned maintenance demands while working closely with engineers and other planners.
