Where you'll work
직무 설명
About Halter
Halter is building technology that helps farmers and graziers run more productive and environmentally responsible operations. Its tools reduce the need for traditional, time-consuming farm practices and are helping reshape grazing in a major way. The company is tackling meaningful problems with a high-performing team that values strong ownership, ambition, and collaboration. It is supported by leading investors, including Founders Fund, Bessemer Venture Partners, BOND, DCVC, Blackbird, Promus Ventures, Rocket Lab’s Peter Beck and Icehouse Ventures.
About the role
Halter’s Predictive Systems group creates advanced models that give farmers accurate, actionable insight to improve decisions and outcomes. The team works with rich and unique data to build modern agricultural modelling systems at the frontier of machine learning and pasture science.
In this role, you will contribute to a machine learning team working on end-to-end systems that may include pasture growth modelling, land property modelling, animal state and health modelling, remote sensing of pasture biomass, detection of heat events, grazing interval simulation, and advanced recommendation systems.
You will take ownership of the full lifecycle of machine learning solutions, from pipeline creation and model design through to deployment and monitoring. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, product, and design teams to deliver meaningful impact for farmers and the broader business.
What you’ll do
- Develop predictive models that address practical, real-world farm challenges across biology and farm operations.
- Carry out in-depth research, including literature reviews across machine learning and pasture science.
- Design datasets, build models, train them, and improve performance across the full development cycle.
- Support machine learning systems in production and learn from how they behave in the field.
- Contribute creative ideas proactively and help push new approaches within the data team.
What we’re looking for
- A high-output generalist who can work independently across infrastructure, databases, simulation, and ML work.
- A strong machine learning specialist with deep theoretical knowledge and practical application skills.
- Experience building complex predictive systems at the edge of research and turning academic work into practical value.
- Comfort with a broad set of problem types, including multimodal time-series modelling and simulation systems.
- Genuine curiosity about pasture-based farming and the agricultural domain.
- A product-focused strategic mindset, with the ability to identify data opportunities that create value for farmers.
- Comfort working through uncertainty, ambiguity, and fast-moving challenges.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to be an effective teammate across disciplines.
More concretely
- Deep academic and/or professional experience applying machine learning to real-world problems, ideally with a research-oriented postgraduate background in mathematics, computer science, or a related area.
- Proven ability to design, deploy, and monitor machine learning systems in production.
- Strong causal reasoning and the ability to build models that reflect real-world dynamics.
- Good intuition for noisy, high-volume, high-dimensional data.
- Strong Python skills and experience working in large, collaborative codebases.
- Comfort using modern AI productivity tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Claude Code.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Nice-to-have exposure to advanced ML architectures such as Transformers or SSMs, or to agent-based or recommendation systems.
Working style
Halter follows an office-first approach. In-person collaboration is considered central to learning, performance, relationship-building, and high-quality decision-making. Working from the office every day is the default, while flexibility is available when needed. The company describes itself as office-first rather than office-only, with a high-trust culture and a strong emphasis on close teamwork.
What it’s like to work here
- Work that has real-world impact and helps farmers improve their livelihoods and sustainability.
- A team of driven, kind, and highly capable people solving difficult problems together.
- Room to grow through autonomy, continuous learning, and a $1,000 personal growth fund.
- A fast-moving environment that is challenging, ambitious, and deeply rewarding.
Diversity and application note
Halter is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace where people can show up as themselves and do their best work. If you are interested in the role but do not meet every requirement, you are still encouraged to apply.
Application instructions
Applicants should submit a cover letter explaining their interest in the role and in working at Halter, along with a CV.
