Role overview
Rio Tinto is hiring MineStar Controllers for its Perth-based Operations Centre. This position sits within the central control hub and focuses on managing autonomous mine fleets across the Pilbara so that safety, production, and operational targets are consistently achieved. The work is carried out in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment that requires strong judgement, initiative, and the ability to solve problems both independently and with input from others.
Shift pattern and work setup
- The role is based in Perth, Western Australia, at the Operations Centre.
- The roster follows a 3 days on, 3 nights on, and 6 days off cycle.
- Shifts are 12 hours each.
- The Operations Centre works around the clock, every day of the year, supporting Rio Tinto’s integrated network from Perth.
Key duties
Reporting to the Supervisor Control, you will use advanced systems and technology to support KPI delivery, coordinate with site teams, and oversee autonomous equipment in a safe and efficient manner. The role includes controlling autonomous watercarts and CAT trucks, while working closely with on-site personnel to achieve the best operational outcomes.
Training and workplace environment
Successful candidates will receive an extensive controller training package and will work in Rio Tinto’s Operations Centre, a modern facility that brings together visualisation and collaboration tools to support real-time decision-making across mines, rail, and ports.
