Role overview
Canada Post is seeking a community-focused Postmaster in Yahk, British Columbia. In this position, you will serve as the local face of the post office, handling the promotion and sale of postal products and services to residents and businesses while supporting day-to-day postal operations. The role reports to the Superintendent/Local Area Manager and requires someone who can juggle multiple priorities with strong customer focus and community commitment.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with the local community on Canada Post services and product offerings.
- Promote and sell postal products and services to both individuals and businesses.
- Provide premises in a central community location within 30 days if selected for the role.
- Run the post office to align with retail operating hours and delivery expectations.
- Oversee postal revenue, assets, and related values.
- Keep records current and prepare required reports.
- Support the management of mail delivery routes.
- Sort mail for postal boxes when needed.
- Supervise staff when required.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and professionally presented post office in line with Canada Post standards.
- Operate the office carefully, efficiently, and with due diligence.
Qualifications and experience
- High school completion, provincial equivalency, and/or experience in business administration.
- Access to owned or leased premises that are suitable, centrally located, and barrier-free at least one month before hire.
- Background dealing with the public in retail and/or service settings, including sales and cash handling.
- Working knowledge of rules, procedures, and methods for mail processing and postal service delivery.
- Physical ability to lift mail containers up to 50 lb, move boxes by pushing or pulling, sort mail, and remain standing for extended periods.
Premises and operating conditions
- The premises must be fully accessible for persons with disabilities and available for inspection and approval at least one month before the hiring date.
- The Postmaster is responsible for rent or lease payments, heating, lighting, cleaning, routine maintenance, snow removal, municipal taxes, and necessary property and liability insurance.
- Appointments are governed by the Canada Post Act.
- Public service hours are set by Canada Post and may change depending on circumstances.
Additional information
This position is classified as RVSGA20 - Level 2 within the Retail business function. It is a permanent full-time appointment with a weekly schedule of 22.5 hours. The role includes one vacancy and requires English as an essential language skill. The job closing date is 2026-08-16.
Compensation and allowances
The pay rate is $22.10 per hour. A leasing allowance of $2,914.00 per year is offered to help offset the cost of running a post office. An annual supplemental allowance may also be available to help with premises-related costs.
