Role Overview
Hi Tech is hiring a Project Engineer in Kolkata for a full-time position that involves occasional travel within India when project execution requires it. The role is intended for a practical, hands-on engineer who can work with teams and grow into a blended position covering project design, engineering, and management in the transmission line sector.
About the Company
Hi-Tech is a nationally recognized provider of advanced engineered products and services for high-performance markets. Since 1989, the company has supported power and process industries and operates from a head office and manufacturing base in Kolkata and Howrah, with a presence across 12 locations in India.
Since 2021, the business has expanded through the acquisition of four companies in the manufacturing and engineering space, broadening its offerings, strengthening technical capability, and increasing its market reach. The acquired businesses include Electro Zavod, AKS Universal Magnetics, UD Marketing, and BUKA Power Plant Consultants.
The company also operates as an OEM for modular aluminum Emergency Restoration System towers used for rapid restoration of power lines. Its corporate office is located in Park Street, Kolkata, and it has multiple manufacturing and sales locations across India.
Role Requirements
This position calls for 1 to 4 years of experience and a bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Civil, Mechanical, Structural, or Electrical Engineering.
Applicants should have practical exposure to Powerline Systems software, especially PLS POLE and/or PLS CADD, along with familiarity with structural engineering, transmission lines, towers, or transmission utility infrastructure projects.
Helpful additional experience includes CAD or SOLIDWORKS for transmission line or structure components, PLS SAPS for finite element analysis, design of guyed towers using real project conditions and terrain inputs, and experience with aluminum or high-voltage/live-line work in either engineering or field settings.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will first undergo training with existing team members to understand the company’s engineering approach and project workflow.
Over time, the engineer will build strong capability in PLS POLE and PLS CADD so they can independently design towers for R&D work, project delivery, product demonstrations, and training activities.
The role includes studying tenders, identifying technical needs, and following up on missing inputs required for tower design.
The engineer will lead technical design, structural analysis, and optimization work for aluminum transmission towers.
They will also make sure that PLS outputs are correctly converted into detailed drawings and verified material quantities, working closely with other team members where needed.
Design control will be part of the role, including coordination of design changes across drawing, procurement, and manufacturing teams.
Support will be required for bid and contract teams in preparing complete technical submissions for tenders.
The engineer will interact with client engineering teams for design reviews and approvals and will provide technical input when needed.
Responsibilities also include developing and delivering PLS training, including at client locations, and assisting with demo tower setup wherever necessary.
During deployments and emergency restoration work, the engineer may need to provide on-site technical support and remain prepared for field travel.
The role also involves contributing to proposals, technical documents, client-facing presentations, and ongoing design improvements.
Additional Information
Location: Kolkata, with travel across India only when required for project execution.
Employment type: Full-time.
