직무 설명

About Mercury

Mercury is a forward-looking organisation that supplies energy and telecommunications to more New Zealanders than any other provider. It is committed to leading the shift toward renewable energy and building a more sustainable future. Its purpose is to look after tomorrow by connecting people and places today, with the aim of improving outcomes for its people, communities, and Aotearoa New Zealand.

The opportunity

This role supports the reliable, safe and high-performing operation of Mercury’s generation assets. You will be part of the site-based Hydro team, working with a committed group that operates, maintains, manages and continually enhances renewable hydro generation assets.

Mercury is seeking a Site Electrical Engineer to deliver technical electrical engineering support to site maintenance and operations teams. The position suits someone who enjoys practical problem-solving, collaborating with others, and contributing to stronger asset performance and reliability.

This is a site-based position and is suitable for candidates living in the Taupo or Rotorua regions.

What the role involves

As Site Engineer – Electrical, you will provide practical engineering support across Mercury’s generation assets and broader business. You will help deliver and oversee site-based engineering projects, assess asset condition, support quality assurance during return-to-service activities, and look for opportunities to improve equipment performance and working methods.

Additional responsibilities

  • Support site maintenance, operations and project teams with electrical engineering expertise.
  • Review asset condition, performance, risk and remaining life to help guide decisions.
  • Diagnose equipment performance problems and assist in removing recurring defects.
  • Identify integrity risks in equipment and manage corrective actions and repairs.
  • Oversee site projects aimed at improving asset performance.
  • Assist with return-to-service quality control and quality assurance for complex work.
  • Carry out and supervise plant inspections, engineering reviews and failure investigations.
  • Ensure the Management of Change process is properly followed.

What Mercury is looking for

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience, along with solid and relevant engineering background. Experience in electricity generation would be a distinct advantage. You should be able to simplify complex issues into clear parts and develop practical, logical solutions.

Benefits and working environment

  • Five extra days of leave each year through the MyDays benefit.
  • A one-off tax-free payment of $400 to help set up a home office.
  • A diverse workplace that values and encourages individual strengths and talents.
  • Annual salary reviews, plus an excellent parental leave policy and the option to buy additional leave.
  • Access to opportunities, career paths and facilities from one of New Zealand’s largest multi-utility providers.
  • Flexible working arrangements with the freedom to work from Mercury’s purpose-built sites and from home, where appropriate.
  • Discounted health insurance, plus free life and income insurance.
  • A strong well-being programme, including up to $100 in annual health checks and a confidential assistance programme.
  • Gender affirmation leave and supportive bereavement leave, including for the loss of a pet.

Growth and inclusion

Mercury describes itself as a learning organisation and says it is committed to helping people build skills and confidence for both current and future success. The company aims to create an energised, innovative and agile workplace where people feel valued.

Mercury also encourages applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels to apply, even if they do not meet every criterion, as long as the role aligns with their skills, capabilities and interests.

Application information

A full position description is available. Applications close on Friday, 17 July at 5:00pm. Mercury notes that it may move a particularly strong candidate to interview sooner than expected.
