About the role
Stage 3 Separation focuses on high-quality solids control equipment for mud systems, helping clients handle solids efficiently, lower operating costs, and achieve limited or zero-discharge solutions when needed. The company also relies on a multidisciplinary team of field technicians, supervisors, engineers, and scientists to recommend practical, cost-effective ways to manage each job.
The organization’s work is guided by a strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, technology-driven innovation, and operational integrity.
What this role involves
Reporting to the Field Leader(s), the Solids Control Field Technician supports mechanical processes used to improve drilling operations and recycle drilling fluid through closed-loop and related mud systems. The position includes structured on-the-job training on specialized Stage 3 equipment.
This is a remote field role based out of the Calgary office, with technicians working on project sites across Canada. The role involves 12-hour shifts on a 14-days-on/7-days-off rotation, and the schedule may vary by site. Swing shifts may run from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM or 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM. - Operate solids control systems such as shaker tanks, centrifuges, drying systems, and pumps.
- Build working knowledge of environmental services and basic electrical concepts.
- Understand drilling fluid characteristics such as fluid weight, funnel viscosity, retort analysis, and related testing.
- Carry out solids control work including air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, floc water handling, fluid transfers, low-gravity solids management, and cuttings drying/invert recovery.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic electrical tasks on equipment.
- Learn to use heavy equipment safely under supervision.
- Keep the work area clean using pressure-washing equipment and other cleaning tools.
- Take part in daily safety meetings.
- Complete PJRA/JSA forms, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists as required.

A customer-focused approach, along with tact and diplomacy, is important.
The position also involves learning to enter routine data into internal systems, including the company portal, and becoming certified to operate equipment such as an excavator, forklift, or wheel loader, which may be used daily. Certification training will be provided before site deployment.
You will also need to earn rig safety certifications such as H2S, WHMIS, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and CPR/First Aid.
Working conditions
This role requires outdoor work in all weather conditions, including cold, wet, and hot environments. A valid provincial driver’s license, active insurance, and a clean driving record with low to no demerits are required. The license requirement includes Class 5 in Alberta, British Columbia, or Saskatchewan, Class G in Ontario, or an equivalent license in another province or territory. Basic Microsoft Office experience, including Outlook, is needed.
Prior experience or certification with a forklift, excavator, or wheel loader is preferred, though training will be provided before you begin working at a job site.
This is a safety-sensitive role, and pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, including urine and/or breath analysis, may be required as a condition of employment.
