Role Overview
This is a permanent, full-time Staff Software Engineer opportunity in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The role sits within a new multi-sector AI programme and focuses on the backend platform foundation that will support the wider AI engineering teams. It is not an AI-specialist role; instead, it is centered on building and guiding the infrastructure layer that enables AI products and services to run.
As a staff-level individual contributor, you will take ownership of core platform areas such as event-driven architecture, distributed systems, APIs, deployment platforms, and cloud operations tooling. The position is designed for someone who can shape technical direction at scale and lead architectural decisions for a large platform environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve the backend platform infrastructure that underpins the AI factory.
- Drive the design and implementation of event-driven systems and distributed backend services.
- Build and improve APIs, deployment tooling, and cloud operational capabilities.
- Provide architectural leadership for large-scale platform and data infrastructure decisions.
- Support engineering teams by creating a reliable, scalable foundation for development and delivery.
Required Experience and Skills
- At least 10 years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in Python or Java.
- Proven experience with event-driven architectures such as Kafka, Azure Service Bus, or Azure Event Hubs.
- Deep background in data infrastructure and platform engineering.
- Experience making technical and architectural decisions in large-scale environments.
- Comfort working at staff or principal level as an individual contributor.
