Steward Supervisor

Role overview

This position supports kitchen and back-of-house cleanliness and sanitation standards within a hotel food and beverage environment in Accra, Ghana. The role focuses on maintaining equipment, cleaning work areas, handling dishware and utensils, managing waste, and helping keep stock areas orderly and hygienic.

Key duties

• Run and care for cleaning tools and equipment such as dishwashers, hand-wash stations, pot-scrubbing areas, and trash compactors.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen and storeroom spaces, including tables, tools, knives, and other equipment.
• Receive incoming deliveries, store perishable goods correctly, and rotate inventory to keep stock usable.
• Ensure clean dishes and wares are placed in the proper storage locations.
• Use detergent and sanitizing chemicals in the three-compartment sink to wash dishware.
• Check cleaned items, stack them appropriately, and return anything that needs additional scrubbing or washing.
• Use hot water spray on racked items to loosen food residue before cleaning.
• Sort, soak, and wash or rewash silverware as needed.
• Break down dirty bus tubs after use.
• Empty trash containers, maintain the dumpster area, and keep waste zones clean.
• Mop and clean assigned areas across the department.
• Dispose of glass safely in designated containers.
• Flatten cardboard and place it, along with other recyclables, into recycling bins.

• Report maintenance issues, accidents, injuries, and unsafe conditions to management.
• Complete required safety training and certifications.

• Be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Be able to stand, sit, or walk for long periods.
• Be able to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
• Carry out additional reasonable tasks assigned by supervisors.

Preferred qualifications

No high school diploma or GED-equivalent is required. There is no related work experience requirement, no prior supervisory experience requirement, and no license or certification requirement.
