Role overview

NEXTDC is seeking a technically minded or trade-qualified person to join the facilities team as a Data Centre Technician in a 24/7 operating environment. This is an entry-level opportunity with complete on-the-job training covering data centre operations and critical infrastructure such as cooling, electrical systems, cabling, building monitoring, and fire protection systems.

Based in Tullamarine, Victoria, the position supports the Facility Management team by carrying out day-to-day operational tasks, delivering efficient maintenance support, and providing strong customer service.

Working pattern

The role follows a rotating 4-5-5 shift roster. Day shifts run from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, while night shifts run from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. At times, the role may also involve travel between sites during shifts when needed.

Responsibilities

• Provide cabling support for customer racks and designated areas, including both electrical and data cabling.
• Respond to remote hands requests in a timely and professional manner.
• Support vendors involved in maintaining key electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
• Identify facility issues quickly and help ensure they are resolved without delay.
• Keep watch on building management and monitoring systems around the clock, escalating problems internally or to external vendors when required.
• Make sure all visitors and contractors follow NEXTDC facility rules and site requirements.
• Carry out manual handling tasks as part of routine operational work.

Requirements

• Strong customer service ability and clear communication skills, along with a positive, hands-on attitude.
• An interest in learning about telecommunications and understanding how systems and equipment work.
• A genuine desire to troubleshoot, repair, and solve practical problems.
• Basic familiarity with data centres, data cabling, and cable management is preferred.
• TAFE certification in Telecommunications is desirable.
• Trade qualifications such as Electrician or HVAC Technician are desirable.
• Australian citizenship is required for security clearance purposes.

Additional information

This position is more facility-operations focused than IT-focused, and involves practical, hands-on responsibilities.
