About the opportunity
Narrabri Shire Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Aquatic Operations Coordinator to help lead its aquatic services. This permanent full-time position offers an annual salary of $99,770 to $110,400, plus superannuation. The role supports community-focused aquatic facilities that serve as centres for recreation, learning, fitness, and wellbeing across Narrabri, Boggabri, and Wee Waa.
Role overview
You will oversee day-to-day aquatic operations across multiple locations, helping ensure services run smoothly, safely, and efficiently for all users. The position suits someone who enjoys community service, team leadership, and practical operational management within the aquatic sector.
Key duties
- Coach, guide, and support both permanent and casual employees so they continue developing their skills and performance.
- Stay up to date with GSPO requirements, NSW Health guidance, Practice Note 15, and all other relevant laws, standards, regulations, and codes.
- Support strategic, business, management, and marketing planning activities when required.
- Create and regularly update Safe Work Method Statements and operating work procedures linked to facility operations.
- Put into practice the Council’s adopted Aquatic Facilities Management Plan.
- Assist the Manager of Entertainment and Leisure Services with planning, monitoring, controlling, and reviewing revenue, operational spend, and capital project budgets.
- Coordinate staff rosters to maintain a safe setting and ensure programs and services are delivered across Narrabri, Wee Waa, and Boggabri.
- Monitor pool plant, equipment, and related systems to extend their working life, improve efficiency, and minimise downtime.

Mandatory qualifications and requirements
- Certificate IV in Aquatics (Pool Operations), or the ability to obtain it, together with relevant practical experience applying that knowledge.
- Proven experience leading, supervising, and managing a varied team to deliver services and programs effectively and consistently.
- Ability to apply risk management principles to maintain a safe environment for users of public swimming pools for leisure, recreation, fitness, learn-to-swim activities, or rehabilitation.
- Experience building partnerships through consultation with community members and clients.
- Pool Lifeguard Skill Set (SISSS00111).
- Current Working with Children Check.
- Ability to obtain all required licences and accreditations before starting work.
