Main Purpose of the Job

This role involves the study, design, specification, and detailed design of conventional electrical devices, systems, and facilities. The engineer will handle varied assignments requiring a solid understanding of the electrical discipline and its interactions with other engineering fields. Responsibilities include analyzing technical documents, proposing solutions based on industrial principles and practical experience, and independently developing/adapting drawings and databases. Complex decisions will be escalated to senior engineers, and the role may involve supervising junior engineers.

Job Objectives

• Prepare essential electrical engineering documentation, including cable, earthing, lighting, and equipment layouts, along with the selection, sizing, and specification of electrical equipment.
• Utilize discipline-specific software for calculations and design, such as Dialux and/or ETAP.
• Create and modify drawings and documents for project-specific needs, and oversee the checking and validation of work produced by others.
• Interpret and apply relevant codes, standards, and specifications to unconventional systems, making informed engineering decisions.
• Review vendor quotations (technical and commercial) for both conventional and unconventional systems, recommending vendors based on overall value, including technical suitability, cost, and operational efficiency.
• Assume ownership of documents and guide others in document management practices.
• Identify and communicate the impact of one's own work or team's work on other disciplines, maintaining regular interdisciplinary communication.
• Produce cross-functional deliverables such as technical evaluations, engineering requisitions, proposals, and estimates for complex systems within the electrical discipline.
• Participate actively in project and departmental meetings, technical reviews, and safety reviews.
• Demonstrate effective time and budget management by overseeing engineering hours for multiple tasks and deliverables, and by contributing to broader procurement budgets.
• Enhance management capabilities through scheduling and budgeting for personal work and that of direct reports.

Qualification and Experience

A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEng) or an equivalent degree from an accredited university is required. Candidates must possess a minimum of 5-6 years of postgraduate experience in engineering consultancy or an EPC company within the oil and gas industry. Prior site-based construction and commissioning experience is considered an advantage.
