Role Summary
In this position, you will work as an Electrical Engineer within Saipem Qatar’s Engineering Fixed Facilities department and report to the Electrical Manager. The role involves supporting electrical engineering activities across project phases while meeting schedule, quality, QA/QC, and HSE expectations.
Key Responsibilities
You will contribute to electrical discipline work from early studies through execution, construction, and startup support. The role requires close coordination with project stakeholders, technical teams, vendors, procurement, and internal interfaces.
- Carry out electrical engineering work in line with project requirements, timelines, and quality expectations.
- Maintain timely and accurate communication with all project interfaces.
- Apply Saipem’s operating practices throughout the project.
- Ensure work is completed in compliance with QA/QC and HSE standards.
- Provide technical input for technology development, feasibility studies, and commercial support.
- Review tender documents, participate in design reviews, and identify technical clarifications, deviations, and alternatives.
- Apply bidding methods, design rules, and engineering guidelines.
- Prepare requests for quotation, technical bid comparisons, material quantity and weight estimates, and installation work quantity sheets.
- Support manhour estimation with the Electrical Lead.
- Review client specifications and define electrical engineering requirements.
- Prepare design criteria, electrical system configurations, and single-line diagrams.
- Perform electrical calculations and studies such as load flow, short circuit, transient stability, motor starting, and power demand analysis.
- Develop protection, relay coordination, metering, and setting documentation.
- Create control philosophies for functions such as power management, synchronization, load shedding, reacceleration, and restart logic.
- Prepare technical specifications, datasheets, and other engineering deliverables for electrical equipment and materials.
- Review technical documents in line with project and company procedures.
- Prepare purchase requisitions and evaluate technical offers.
- Review vendor documentation and support procurement, expediting, and testing activities.
- Develop plant layouts such as cable routing, grounding, and substation arrangements.
- Perform cable sizing calculations and define installation details, bulk material requirements, and take-offs.
- Prepare bills of quantities and technical documents for installation works.
- Define procedures for testing and energizing electrical systems.
Requirements
- A master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred; a degree in another electrical engineering discipline is also acceptable.
- At least 5 years of EPC experience in electrical engineering at an expert level.
- Strong command of English.
- Experience in EPC project environments.
- Knowledge of company processes and procedures.
- Familiarity with project management tools and methods.
- Hands-on ability in electrical calculations and system studies.
- Understanding of electrical control systems.
- Experience with 2D and 3D modelling.
- Capability in electrical engineering design work.
- Knowledge of engineering standards, codes, and regulations.
- Comfort using office software, including Microsoft Project.
- Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Advanced Excel skills.
Terms and Conditions
This is a permanent, project-based role located in Doha, Qatar. The position follows a 45-hour work week, structured as 9 hours per day over 5 days.
