Facilities Technician

Role overview

This position combines hands-on maintenance with coordination of scheduled contractor work and day-to-day facility support.

Key duties

• Carry out regular checks of building systems and complete repairs where needed, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, doors, and fixtures.
• Act quickly when maintenance issues, breakdowns, or urgent situations arise.
• Diagnose faults in equipment and building systems and apply the right corrective fix.
• Handle basic carpentry, painting, and small-scale construction work as required.
• Keep an eye on site conditions to support safety, cleanliness, and efficient operations.
• Record maintenance activity, work orders, and stock levels for tools and spare parts.
• Work with outside contractors and vendors, making sure work is completed properly and meets standards.
• Follow health, safety, and environmental rules and procedures at all times.
• Assist with office or facility relocations, space arrangements, and equipment setups.
• Be available for on-call or shift-based coverage when the role requires it.
• Lead site health and safety practices, including HSA-related and internal audits, while ensuring inspection and compliance standards are met.

Requirements

• 2 to 5 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a similar technical position.
• Practical understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building systems.
• Ability to interpret manuals, schematics, and simple technical drawings.
• Comfort using hand tools and power tools.
• Valid driver’s licence and forklift licence.
• Strong troubleshooting ability and a solutions-focused mindset.
• Basic computer skills for work orders, reporting, and related systems.
• Ability to organise priorities and work independently.
• Good communication skills.
• Careful attention to detail and a strong commitment to safety.
• Trade certification is preferred.
• Knowledge of building codes and regulatory requirements is preferred.
