Role overview
The House Manager plays a key role in maintaining a safe, compassionate, and stable home for mothers and their babies. This position supports day-to-day household needs, helps residents make progress toward their personal objectives, and keeps the program operating effectively throughout the shift. Working under the direction of the Residential Program Specialist, the role includes practical household support, life-skills guidance, appointment assistance, and general resident support.
This is a mission-centered opportunity to contribute to a nurturing environment where families can find support, encouragement, and a fresh start.
Key duties
- Oversee household operations, including grocery purchasing, organizing donated food items, managing housekeeping tasks, replenishing supplies, and escalating any issues that arise.
- Support program participants in working toward goals assigned by the Director.
- Provide childcare and transportation support for participants when needed.
- Teach practical life skills, offer encouragement, and assist with parenting education.
- Help resolve disagreements and respond appropriately during stressful or crisis situations.
- Maintain training as a Real Alternatives counselor and deliver only approved services.
- Gather information needed for reports and complete daily documentation for each participant.
- Carry out duties in line with Saint Joseph’s Center’s mission and policies while respecting all cultural backgrounds.
- Participate in staff meetings and community events when requested.
- Attend required trainings, programs, and seminars to support ongoing professional development.
- Remain adaptable to changes in responsibilities, schedules, and program needs.

Required qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage household responsibilities effectively.
- Skill in building respectful, positive working relationships.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality for residents and staff.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet use, and email.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
