Overview

East Suffolk Council is hiring a Labourer to join its Building Maintenance Team in Lowestoft, England, United Kingdom. This is a permanent role with a working pattern of 37 hours per week and a salary of £26,403 to £28,142 per year (Band 3).

About the Role

The council provides essential local services across East Suffolk, supporting a population of around a quarter of a million people. In this position, you will help maintain the council’s retained housing stock by carrying out or supporting a broad range of building maintenance tasks. The work may involve both team-based and solo assignments, all focused on delivering repairs and maintenance for council tenants in their homes.

The role is physically demanding and involves significant manual handling, as is typical in a building maintenance setting.

What You Will Do

  • Carry out building maintenance work on the council’s housing stock or assist with those duties.
  • Support repairs and upkeep services for tenants’ homes.
  • Work effectively as part of a team when needed.
  • Complete tasks independently and without direct supervision when required.
  • Handle manual and physical duties safely and consistently.

What You Need

You should bring experience from a building site along with a practical understanding of basic building maintenance methods. The council is looking for someone who can work well with others but is equally comfortable working on their own.

Benefits

Employees can access a range of workplace benefits, including leave, pension provision, flexible working, development support, wellbeing resources, and retail discounts.

  • Generous annual leave, starting at 25 days and rising to 31 days after 5 years, plus bank holidays.
  • Membership in the local government pension scheme.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Role-specific learning and development opportunities.
  • Access to staff support networks, health and wellbeing initiatives, and programmes.
  • Discounts on mobile phones, computers, travel, fashion, clothing, health and beauty, and other goods and services.

Working Arrangements

The council works in an agile way, and most teams use a mix of home and office working depending on service needs and individual preferences. If this may affect your working pattern, you can discuss it with the recruiting manager.
