Lead Engineer - Instrumentation

Role overview

Larsen & Toubro is looking for a seasoned and detail-driven Lead Engineer in Instrumentation to work from a project site in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This position focuses on design leadership for instrumentation and automation work related to Solar PV power plants.

The role involves guiding engineering execution across the full project lifecycle, from pre-bid engineering through commissioning and warranty support, while also assisting the site team as required. The selected professional will work closely with modelling, engineering, procurement, construction, and operations teams to keep design outputs aligned with project needs.

Core responsibilities

• Deliver engineering drawings and documents within the required timelines and in line with the overall project schedule.
• Review outputs prepared by design engineers and draftspeople.
• Verify sizing and design calculations for engineering and electrical equipment, and obtain client approvals where needed.
• Examine vendor submissions and other engineering deliverables.
• Handle several tasks at once while maintaining quality and deadlines.
• Estimate manpower needs and plan engineering hours accordingly.
• Review BOQ items and support the contracts team with technical explanations and clarifications.
• Coordinate across disciplines to complete inter-departmental checks, including Civil/Structural, Electrical, MEP, and related functions.
• Support the site execution team by resolving engineering queries and providing clarifications.
• Participate in pre-award vendor evaluation based on client technical specifications and pass validation documents to Supply Chain Management.
• Inspect equipment supplied by selected vendors after validation documentation is submitted.
• Resolve design-related issues and explain client requirements to the site execution team.
• Gather project-related inputs from the client and the Project Engineering Manager.
• Work with the operations team and communicate design specifications needed for approvals.
• Support engineering activities through commissioning and warranty phases, as well as other project-site requirements.
• Assist modellers in developing BIM 3D models for Solar PV power plants.

Experience and qualifications

Candidates should hold a BE in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, ICE (Instrumentation and Control Engineering), or an M.Tech in Instrumentation or Automation.

The role requires 7 to 10 years of experience, specifically in design work for Solar PV power plants or power distribution projects.

This is an onsite, full-time position based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The engineer must be capable of coordinating with multiple departments, managing priorities effectively, and supporting both design and site execution activities.
