Role summary

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer will join CAI’s Data Centre / Building Commissioning team and take ownership of commissioning mission-critical mechanical systems. This includes equipment start-up, testing, and support for maintenance planning. The role also contributes to commissioning test execution, design reviews, and LEED / Green Star submission support.

Key responsibilities

  • Create and refine test procedures for mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Take part in customer Factory Witness Tests and Factory Acceptance Tests.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manage their involvement during commissioning.
  • Inspect equipment to verify it matches approved vendor documentation and installation expectations.
  • Document that systems are delivered, installed, tested, and functioning as intended.
  • Review design specifications, manufacturer submittals, schematic drawings, and schedule documents.
  • Carry out QA/QC checks for mechanical installation and startup work.
  • Allocate commissioning tasks across the mechanical commissioning team.
  • Run test scripts to validate system performance against design requirements.
  • Promote safe work practices across the commissioning team and on customer sites.
  • Work closely with customers to maintain strong relationships, hit project goals, and stay on schedule.
  • Prepare daily status reports for the mechanical commissioning team.
  • Lead facility walk-downs, turnover activities, and punch list reviews.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of LEED / Green Star specifications and requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related engineering discipline, or an equivalent level of practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in commissioning and qualification within a regulated environment, or in facility engineering / facility management.
  • Background in one or more of the following areas: data centre construction/commissioning, mission-critical construction/commissioning, building commissioning, startup walk-downs and troubleshooting for facilities or mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, fluid/hydraulic systems, TAB, Factory Witness Tests, mechanical commissioning processes, or equipment/facility handover.
  • Data centre operations experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of MS Project.
  • Ability to travel internationally when needed, subject to any travel restrictions.
