Packaging Operator

About the role

AB InBev Africa is seeking a Packaging Operator to run the packaging line in a way that keeps product quality consistent, improves throughput, and reduces material loss. The role sits in a fast-moving production environment where attention to quality, safety, and efficient operations is essential.

What you will do

• Run the packaging process and keep the line operating smoothly.
• Handle machine start-up, shutdown, normal running, and waste control.
• Carry out brand and pack changeovers as required.
• Work in line with safety and health standards to maintain a safe workplace.
• Perform thorough cleaning and basic first-line maintenance.
• Track process performance and monitor production output.
• Complete quality inspections and verify product standards.
• Watch production inputs and adjust the process when needed.
• Take corrective action quickly when issues arise.
• Work effectively within the team and communicate with customers and suppliers where relevant.
• Contribute to troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.
• Support VPO routine execution.

What is needed

• A diploma or degree in Mechanical or Electrical studies.
• A valid trade test in Mechanical or Electrical.
• The ability to work rotating or assigned shifts.
• Prior experience in a packaging process environment.
• Fast response when situations move out of control.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Good problem-solving ability.
• Understanding of health and safety rules and labour legislation.
• A strong work ethic and a consistent record of high-quality performance.
• Experience making commercial decisions in a packaging hall, including financial, operational, and people-related decisions.
