About the Role
This part-time Patient Advocate role acts as the main point of contact between patients and healthcare providers. The position supports patients through chat, phone, and email while also helping manage the medical billing journey end to end. The goal is to create a smoother, more efficient, and more compassionate billing experience for patients.
The role is fully remote and is expected to require around 20 hours per week, typically from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET, Monday through Thursday. The initial engagement is expected to run for 3 to 5 months, with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities
- Handle an average of 60 to 80 inbound and outbound patient calls each day related to medical billing questions.
- Use the platform to respond to patient inquiries through chat and phone, and carry out outbound calling campaigns when needed.
- Track issues through escalation and coordinate follow-up with healthcare providers.
- Oversee payment posting activities and pursue follow-up on missed or defaulted payments.
- Communicate with insurance companies and other external parties as required.
- Work toward individual and team targets tied to patient satisfaction and collections results.
Requirements
- At least 2 to 3 years of experience in customer service, ideally in a phone-based or call center environment.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in medical billing, insurance, or a related healthcare setting.
- Availability to work part-time for about 20 hours per week.
- Experience using electronic medical record systems, with familiarity preferred in Athena (Centricity Business), eClinicalWorks, Medik, CareVoyant, Nextgen, and Epic.
- Strong working knowledge of Google Suite.
- Ability to move efficiently between several systems while typing quickly and accurately.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of self-direction and strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated empathy and a genuine commitment to excellent customer service.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a fast-changing work environment.
- Flexibility to adjust schedule when needed.

Compensation
The hourly pay rate is $22.64 in California, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, and $19.47 in all other states.
