Role Details
The Peer Workforce team at the Mackay Community Health Centre is looking for a Peer Worker to join their team permanently. This role requires an individual with lived experience of mental health issues, substance use, and recovery, as per s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. The position involves providing non-clinical peer support within the Mackay Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Division, serving both community and inpatient settings. The Peer Worker will assist clients in achieving their best outcomes and support clinical staff in understanding recovery-oriented care and the advantages of peer support. About The Team
The Division of Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs comprises eight clinical teams within the MHHS. The Mental Health Service delivers comprehensive, specialized mental health assessment and treatment for individuals with severe and complex mental health problems across all age groups. Our services are consumer-focused, recovery-oriented, and delivered in various settings including community, an acute inpatient unit, hospitals, and emergency departments. The Workforce Partnerships and Professional Development Team operates within a multidisciplinary framework to deliver high-quality, safe services with a strong culture of continuous improvement. Team members collaborate with consumers, their families/carers, and external service providers. Key areas within the team include Court Liaison & Forensic Liaison, Headspace, Regional Adversity, MH Coordinators (Co-Occurring Conditions, Multicultural & EdLinQ), Suicide Prevention & Aftercare, Digital Workforce Change, Service Reform & Service Integration, Mental Health Information Management, MH ACT Delegate, and Peer Workforce.

Additional Information
Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be a person with a lived experience of mental issues, substance use and recovery. Experience accessing Mental Health or Alcohol and other Drugs services as a client (public, private or primary care) is essential.
