Plant Security Head

Role overview

This position is responsible for leading security operations at a major site in line with business priorities and the site security roadmap. The role focuses on safeguarding critical infrastructure, ensuring continuity of operations, maintaining a secure environment for employees and stakeholders, strengthening personal safety for designated protectees, and building a strong framework to prevent, detect, and respond to fraud or misconduct.

The role also involves identifying threats through detailed risk assessment, reducing exposure through practical mitigation plans, and managing security-related automation as well as infrastructure improvement projects.

Security strategy and governance

• Contribute site-level inputs to the business security strategy and security roadmap in line with the site security plan.
• Ensure the site security approach remains aligned with group policy.
• Lead strategic initiatives that support local business requirements and promote operational excellence at the plant level.
• Plan, prepare, and track the security budget across capex and opex.
• Finalize the budget with the Vertical Security Head and secure approvals.
• Monitor budget utilization and coordinate with the Vertical Security Head in case of shortages or overruns.
• Review ongoing strategic initiatives regularly and participate in governance council discussions to address key issues and improvement opportunities.

Risk management, intelligence, and audits

• Build trusted intelligence networks with administrative bodies, police, local communities, and media contacts.
• Track daily local, national, and international news for issues that may affect the organization or the site.
• Analyze intelligence inputs, anticipate risks, and prepare mitigation actions.
• Maintain a high vigilance level across site security operations.
• Conduct security risk assessments and implement mitigation measures in coordination with the Vertical Security Head.
• Identify weaknesses in the site’s security infrastructure, systems, technologies, and operations, and prioritize closure within defined timelines.
• Assess threat scenarios such as theft, vandalism, terrorism, pilferage, assault, and unauthorized entry.
• Review security risk assessment reports and ensure recommended actions are implemented.
• Support internal and third-party security audits, conduct verification checks, and submit findings to the corporate team.
• Review audit outcomes, engage stakeholders on corrective action plans, and ensure open findings are closed promptly.

Crisis response and operational control

• Design emergency response and control plans for crises, emergencies, and incidents to support business continuity and recovery.
• Lead response execution during incidents and escalate issues to management in a timely manner.
• Oversee selection and training of Quick Reaction Team members.
• Update response plans using learnings from past incidents to improve preparedness.
• Monitor site operations and ensure compliance with SOPs and SOGs.
• Review MIS reports and share weekly updates with the Site CEO and Vertical Security Head.
• Develop security awareness and training programs for employees and community members along with the Site CEO.

Control room, patrol, access, and traffic

• Manage the site security control room end to end, including maintenance and upgrade initiatives.
• Ensure the control room is integrated appropriately with the national security control room.
• Escalate incidents and group-level reports in line with the prescribed matrix.
• Oversee patrol planning and handle exceptions.
• Regularly review CCTV, sensors, and other automation tools to maintain vigilance.
• Supervise man and vehicle access control operations and address process deviations.
• Manage visitor access card processes through the relevant systems.
• Oversee business traffic and material movement to ensure authorizations and authenticity checks are completed as per SOPs.
• Study traffic bottlenecks and recommend improvement measures.
• Ensure traffic management operations follow established rules and procedures.

Investigations, protection, and performance

• Investigate security-related incidents such as fraud, crime, theft, pilferage, and vandalism, and initiate corrective action.
• Prepare and share investigation reports with the business unit team for major incidents.
• Run security systems, processes, and operations to provide continuous protection for tangible and intangible assets using a ring-security approach.
• Conduct security events in line with the annual security plan and ensure adequate security deployment.
• Coordinate traffic movement to reduce disruption and maintain logistics flow.
• Plan for overweight and over-dimensional consignments after site and road surveys.
• Define site security performance metrics with the Business Security Head and lead periodic reviews.
• Identify process gaps and drive improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and ownership across the security function.

Outsourced manpower and people management

• Review outsourced security manpower strength and initiate recruitment as required.
• Evaluate the third-party security service provider to ensure deployed personnel meet the defined standards.
• Engage regularly with outsourced employees to support their welfare.
• Ensure outsourced manpower deployment aligns with the work breakdown structure and competency requirements.
• Lead hiring for open positions at the site and support talent selection for critical roles with the Vertical Security Head.
• Promote a performance-oriented culture through goal setting, reviews, and feedback.

Project management

• Identify and lead projects that improve or add security technology, automation, and infrastructure in line with group security guidelines and industry best practices.
• Apply strong project management practices to deliver projects on time and maximize return on investment.
• Integrate new projects into day-to-day security operations through process design and stakeholder alignment.

Requirements and technical fit

The role calls for substantial experience working with senior management and handling complex stakeholder relationships. A strong grasp of site security operations, incident handling, investigations, audits, control room operations, access control, surveillance, risk assessment, manpower management, and project execution is essential. Experience in implementing security automation and infrastructure upgrades is also important.

Eligibility

Applicants should hold a B.B.A. or B.M.S. in any specialization, or any graduate qualification.
