Role overview
This is a permanent Delivery Postie position with driving duties based at Guildford Delivery Office, GU1 1AA. The role involves 35 hours a week, spread over 5 days from Monday to Sunday, with shifts scheduled between 07:30-15:30 and 13:00-20:00.
Royal Mail is reshaping its service for the future, and this role offers the chance to be part of that journey while serving the local community. The job is hands-on and outdoor-based, but it also brings the satisfaction of helping people receive important items, from official documents and personal mail to online orders and community deliveries.
What the job involves
You will be responsible for delivering items securely along your route and representing the service in the local area. The work can involve walking for long stretches, working in all weather conditions, and handling a range of deliveries, including election materials and certain regulated items such as food products or alcohol, always in line with company standards.
What we're looking for
The ideal candidate is energetic, self-driven, well organised and reliable, with a strong focus on customer service. You should enjoy working independently, be comfortable interacting with people in the community, and take pride in being a friendly, trustworthy presence. A full UK manual driving licence is required, and you must have no more than 6 penalty points.
Pay and benefits
You will receive a guaranteed hourly rate of £16.24, paid monthly and adjusted to match your working hours.
Other benefits include 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with service length, a full uniform, a company pension with competitive employer contributions, and access to career progression opportunities such as trainee manager routes and apprentice schemes.
Additional support includes enhanced family leave arrangements, 24/7 wellbeing services for you and your family, a range of retail, travel, attraction and gym discounts, and free Christmas stamps.
Additional notes
For candidate search purposes, roles with 35-37 hours per week are displayed as full-time, although any post under 37 hours is treated as part-time in the employment contract.
If your application progresses, the first stage will be an interview. Applicants are advised to keep contact details current and to review the information checklist and health guidance before applying. Royal Mail Group also highlights its commitment to inclusion, equal opportunity and support for Armed Forces समुदाय members, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. Reasonable adjustments can be discussed with the recruiter during the hiring process.
