Role Overview
This full-time, on-site position in Qatar is for a QC Welding Inspector responsible for checking welding activities throughout the work process. The role involves confirming fit-up, welding settings, visual inspection, and dimensional measurements to make sure work matches approved drawings, welding procedures, and project specifications. The inspector will also review WPS/PQR documents and welder qualifications, keep track of welding consumables, and ensure full traceability and proper records for each weld.
In addition, the role requires preparing and updating inspection reports, welding logs, and quality dossiers, while working with production, engineering, and client teams to close out quality concerns. The position also supports NDT coordination, contributes to quality audits, and helps maintain safe working practices on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect welding work at each stage, including fit-up, parameter checks, visual examination, and dimensional verification.
- Confirm that welding activities follow approved drawings, welding procedures, project specifications, and applicable codes or standards.
- Review WPS/PQR documents and verify welder qualifications before and during execution of work.
- Monitor welding consumables and ensure traceability for materials, welds, and related quality records.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize inspection reports, welding documentation, and quality dossiers.
- Coordinate with production, engineering, subcontractors, and client representatives to address and resolve quality issues.
- Support coordination of non-destructive testing and review NDT reports with the relevant certified personnel.
- Take part in quality audits and help drive compliance with site safety and quality requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Solid experience in quality control and inspection, especially weld visual inspection, dimensional checking, and verification against specifications.
- Background in quality assurance and quality management, including use of ITPs, procedures, and controlled documentation for welding work.
- Good communication skills for working with internal teams, subcontractors, and client-side representatives, as well as documenting findings clearly.
- Welding inspection certification such as CSWIP 3.1, AWS-CWI, or an equivalent credential.
- Working knowledge of standards and codes such as ASME, AWS, API, or ISO.
- Experience on oil and gas, marine, or heavy industrial projects, preferably in fabrication, construction, or shipyard settings.
- Familiarity with NDT techniques such as RT, UT, MT, and PT, with the ability to interpret reports in coordination with certified NDT staff.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to read engineering drawings and welding symbols, and sound problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to safe working practices and the ability to operate in a multicultural on-site environment in Qatar.
