Role overview
This position oversees restaurant, bar/lounge, and, where applicable, room service operations. The role is responsible for leading day-to-day service, supporting recipe development, maintaining hygiene standards, and helping service staff during peak dining periods, including floor cleaning when needed. The manager is expected to continuously improve guest and employee satisfaction while maximizing the financial performance of the area under their control.
The position is based in Doha, Qatar, at Salwa Road.
Key duties
- Direct and supervise staff while managing the full set of daily operational activities.
- Understand team roles well enough to step in and cover duties when required.
- Maintain service quality and cleanliness standards across the restaurant, bar/lounge, and room service areas.
- Review staffing levels to ensure guest service expectations, operating needs, and financial targets are all met.
- Use strong communication and relationship-building skills to guide and motivate the team.
- Encourage trust, respect, cooperation, and positive teamwork among employees.
- Lead by example and demonstrate appropriate conduct at all times.
- Identify development needs and provide coaching, mentoring, or other support to build skills and knowledge.
- Set priorities, goals, and action plans to organize work effectively and deliver results.
- Maintain team productivity and provide clear direction to keep departmental goals focused and on track.
- Ensure compliance with all food and beverage policies, standards, and procedures through training, supervision, follow-up, and management enforcement.
- Make sure all relevant legal and regulatory requirements are followed.
- Ensure food handling and sanitation standards are met consistently.
- Confirm that employees understand applicable local, state, and federal alcohol laws.
- Maintain open and collaborative working relationships with staff and encourage the same across the team.
- Set clear guidelines so employees understand expectations and operating factors.
- Oversee alcohol service in line with local laws.
- Deliver service that exceeds expectations and supports guest satisfaction and repeat business.
- Work with guests through communication and support to understand needs and improve service quality.
- Handle complaints and resolve guest concerns effectively.
- Meet guests informally during meals or at checkout to gather feedback on food quality, service levels, and overall satisfaction.
- Take corrective action to improve service outcomes and keep guest satisfaction as a regular part of department meetings.
- Manage service delivery from arrival to departure, including greetings, order accuracy, speed of food and beverage delivery, special requests, billing, and inviting guests to return.
- Provide direction to subordinates, including performance standards and monitoring.
- Identify learning needs and create formal training or education programs where necessary.
- Ensure employees are treated fairly and work toward improved retention.
- Keep staff trained on guest expectations and gather employee feedback through an open-door approach.
- Review employee satisfaction results to identify and address concerns.
- Recognize strong performance and achievements in all areas of responsibility.
- Share information with supervisors, peers, and subordinates verbally, in writing, by email, or in person.
- Analyze information and evaluate outcomes to choose practical solutions and resolve problems.
- Assist waitstaff and host staff with floor cleaning during meals and busy service periods.
- Recognize quality products and attractive presentation standards.
- Cover daily shift operations when the assistant restaurant manager is absent.
- Oversee financial responsibilities for the department, including purchasing and payment of invoices.
Experience and education
Candidates should meet one of the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, plus 4 years of experience in food and beverage, culinary, or a related field.
- Or a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related major, plus 2 years of experience in food and beverage, culinary, or a related field.
