Role overview
A Sharia-compliant digital challenger bank in Abu Dhabi is looking for a Strategy Associate to work closely with the Head of Strategy and Transformation. The position combines elements of an executive assistant to senior leadership, a junior chief of staff, and a strategy manager. The successful candidate will help shape, plan, and deliver a range of new initiatives across the bank.
This is a demanding, high-impact role that is not a standard nine-to-five position. It will suit someone who is highly driven, comfortable working at pace, and able to operate confidently with senior decision-makers.
Fintech exposure from the USA, Europe, the UK, or the UAE is especially valued, though personal fit and judgement are equally important.
What the role involves
The Strategy Associate will support the Head of Strategy and Transformation in both defining and implementing strategic initiatives. The role requires the ability to act as a trusted proxy, represent the Head of Strategy & Transformation in discussions, and help reduce their day-to-day workload by handling decisions and communication at a senior level.
Core capabilities
- Advanced Excel ability for structured analysis and modelling.
- Strong PowerPoint skills, including building polished presentations and delivering them effectively.
- Comfort in engaging with highly senior stakeholders across the bank.
- Capability to act as the representative of the Head of Strategy & Transformation when needed.
- Excellent research skills and a sharp analytical mindset.
Preferred background
The employer is open to candidates from several professional paths, especially those with experience in fintech, digital banking, or analytical roles in private equity, venture capital, investment banking, or investment management. Applicants from family office environments may also be considered.
Candidates whose background is primarily in large retail or corporate banks, or in Big 4 management consulting without substantial banking or financial services exposure, are less likely to be a fit. However, strategy consultants with meaningful financial services experience may be considered.
Academic profile
Educational pedigree is an important factor for this opening. Graduates from top global universities and candidates with experience at leading investment banks such as Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Citibank, and CICC are especially preferred.
Additional notes
The role is described as a prime opportunity for a strong, personable, and execution-focused professional. The source also highlights the importance of personality, strong academics, and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment.
