Role overview

This is a senior hands-on technical position, not a helpdesk role. The successful candidate will act as the team’s go-to expert for complex problems, taking ownership of escalations from first- and second-line support while also leading infrastructure and Microsoft 365 project work. You will be a dependable technical partner for clients and colleagues alike.

The ideal person is broadly skilled across Microsoft infrastructure, cloud, networking, endpoint management, and security tools. This role suits someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in solving difficult issues, and prefers working in a quality-focused environment rather than a ticket-volume driven one.

The role is based in Perth and includes a hybrid mix of home, office, and client-site work. Regular travel to client locations across the metropolitan area is required, so a valid driver’s licence and access to a personal vehicle are essential. Applicants must already be living in Perth and have full working rights in Australia.

Core technology environment

• Microsoft technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra ID, and Microsoft 365 services such as Exchange Online, Teams, and SharePoint
• Endpoint management tools including Microsoft Intune, MDM/MAM, and Autopilot
• Security platforms such as Sophos Intercept X, Sophos Firewall, Sophos Central, conditional access, and multi-factor authentication
• Backup administration and monitoring with Veeam
• Networking concepts including VLANs, VPNs, firewall rules, DNS, and DHCP
• Automation using PowerShell
• RMM platforms and managed services workflows

Key responsibilities

You will be responsible for both business-as-usual support and project delivery across client environments.

• Take ownership of complex escalations coming through from first- and second-line support
• Support, troubleshoot, and maintain client systems across Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD / Entra ID, and Microsoft 365
• Carry out patching, monitor backups, and perform proactive maintenance using RMM tools
• Manage endpoints through Intune and MDM, including provisioning devices and deploying policies
• Administer security controls such as EDR/XDR, firewall settings, and conditional access policies
• Oversee Veeam backup operations, including configuration and monitoring
• Deliver new infrastructure projects such as server builds, migrations, and cloud onboarding
• Set up and migrate Microsoft 365 tenants, including Exchange, Teams, and SharePoint
• Build and support Azure environments, including virtual machines, resource groups, and networking
• Onboard new customers by completing network reviews, documentation, and tool integration
• Contribute to internal process refinement and tooling improvements

Requirements

The client is looking for someone with a strong senior technical background and the confidence to work directly with customers.

• At least 3 years of experience in a systems engineer or senior IT support role, preferably within an MSP
• Practical, hands-on experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and Azure AD / Entra ID
• Strong Microsoft 365 administration skills, covering Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and Intune
• Working knowledge of Azure fundamentals, including virtual machines, networking, and resource management
• Experience using RMM platforms in a managed services environment
• A broad technical mindset and comfort working across varied client setups
• Good communication skills and confidence engaging directly with clients
• Valid driver’s licence and access to your own vehicle for site visits
• Current residence in Perth, WA, with full Australian work rights

Preferred qualifications

• Microsoft certifications such as MD-102, AZ-104, MS-102, SC-300, or SC-200
• Sophos Engineer or Architect certification
• Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
• CompTIA Security+ or CySA+
• CCNA or an equivalent networking credential

Compensation and benefits

The position offers a base salary of AUD 100,000 to AUD 120,000 plus 12% superannuation. Additional benefits include a flexible hybrid work arrangement across home, office, and client sites, support for professional development and certifications, and clear pathways for career growth.
