Role overview
Sandvik Mining & Construction Tanzania Limited is seeking a proactive Warehouse Supervisor to support operations at a customer site in Tanzania. This position is part of a Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) setup and focuses on coordinating site activities, supervising warehouse staff, and ensuring inventory and logistics processes run smoothly.
The role reports to the Warehouse Operations Manager and is based on-site at one of Sandvik’s customer locations in Tanzania.
Purpose of the position
The Warehouse Supervisor is accountable for the day-to-day control of warehouse operations, efficient team supervision, accurate inventory recording, and support for inbound and outbound goods flow. The position also involves maintaining warehouse compliance, improving processes, and helping drive better customer productivity through dependable parts and services delivery.
In addition, the role supports Sandvik Parts and Logistics activities at the assigned site by managing receiving, issuing, administration of parts and consumables, and maintaining an effective warehouse environment.
The VMI Warehouse Supervisor also contributes to stock planning through strong customer relationship management, helping improve customer reliability, productivity, and profitability by identifying opportunities for value-added parts and services.
Responsibilities
- Lead periodic cycle counts and prepare reports covering materials and supplies held in the store.
- Confirm that all spare parts and tools received into the warehouse match the correct quantities.
- Inspect incoming goods to verify physical condition and identify damage, incorrect items, shortages, or excess deliveries.
- Make sure goods are accurately receipted in the system and assigned to the proper locations.
- Ensure replenishable items are placed in the correct bin locations.
- Oversee the receipt, storage, and dispatch of materials, along with related reporting, in line with established procedures.
- Support customer productivity, reliability, and profitability by ensuring timely delivery of products and parts from the warehouse.
- Work with relevant stakeholders on inventory-control improvement initiatives.
- Supervise stock movement activities, including receiving, dispatching, and returns, on a regular basis.
- Improve customer experience and stock availability by maintaining fill rate for the assigned parts assortment.
- Coordinate inventory-control improvement activities with the Warehouse Operations Manager for the VMI operation.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including requirements related to Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality management.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least 3 years of experience in logistics, procurement, or supply chain operations.
- Working knowledge of ERP systems, such as Aurora.
- Prior experience handling customer queries and complaints.
- Exposure to the mining industry or similar sectors will be an added advantage.
Other requirements and competencies
- Strong command of the English language.
- Good numerical ability.
- Careful, detail-oriented, and conscientious in work approach.
- Flexible, self-reliant, and able to take initiative independently.
Work environment and additional conditions
The selected candidate must be physically and medically fit to work in a mining environment, and must also meet all customer vaccination requirements.
