About the organisation
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) supports ambitious Kiwi businesses to expand overseas and grow stronger, faster, and bigger for the benefit of New Zealand. The organisation combines commercial know-how with a broad international network to help customers convert global growth plans into real results.
Role overview
NZTE is seeking a commercially sharp, relationship-focused Customer Manager to manage a portfolio made up mainly of export customers. This position plays a significant part in helping businesses at a key point in their growth journey by clarifying priorities, refining strategy, and linking them with the right support to move faster in international markets. The role draws on strong international commercial experience, an understanding of how early-stage companies scale successfully, and a wide network of relevant contacts and insights across different sectors.
You will work within a close regional team while also drawing on NZTE’s global reach to create valuable outcomes for customers and the wider business community. The position is based in Dunedin, Otago, and supports a hybrid way of working.
What you will do
- Develop strong, trusted long-term relationships with a portfolio of export-oriented customers.
- Gain a clear understanding of each customer’s business, expansion goals, and core obstacles.
- Shape practical, targeted work plans that support customers’ international objectives.
- Direct time and effort toward the activities that will generate the greatest commercial value.
- Use insight and credibility to challenge ideas constructively where needed.
- Link customers with NZTE specialists, networks, and opportunities offshore.
- Use regional and international relationships to help unlock growth opportunities.
What you need to succeed
The role calls for a blend of commercial judgement, curiosity, and strong relationship-building ability. You should be comfortable working with businesses that are growing and changing quickly, bringing structure, focus, and a practical way of working.
Additional information
Benefits highlighted for this position include a collaborative environment that encourages ongoing learning, hybrid working, five weeks of annual leave, balanced work–life expectations, and a strong emphasis on holistic wellbeing. NZTE also notes access to world-class business networks, a stimulating workplace, and the chance to work with a diverse international team. The role is banded at NZ Level 17.
Application details
Applications should be submitted online with a resume and cover letter no later than 11:59 PM on Tuesday 7 July 2026. NZTE reviews applications as they come in and may close the vacancy early if suitable candidates are found. Candidates are encouraged not to delay submitting their application.
