Role overview
Mindrift is seeking an experienced Bot Developer to contribute to the Tendem project and create conversational automation for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and related messaging platforms. In this freelance, part-time remote role, you will work in a hybrid AI + human setup: Tendem Agents take on repetitive work, while you apply engineering judgment, conversational design skills, and quality oversight to deliver dependable bots that are ready for real users.
The position is designed for professionals who have practical experience with messaging APIs, webhooks, bot logic, and production-quality integrations.
About the platform
Mindrift connects subject matter specialists with AI-driven projects from leading technology innovators. Its focus is on advancing generative AI by bringing in hands-on expertise from around the world.
What you'll work on
You will build, improve, and maintain bots for messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and similar systems. Typical use cases may include customer support, appointment scheduling, order intake, content delivery, moderation, and automated alerts.
Core responsibilities
- Develop bots for WhatsApp Business API / Cloud API, Telegram Bot API, Discord API, and similar channels.
- Plan and implement conversation paths, state handling, and fallback logic.
- Connect bots with language models such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent tools when natural language responses are needed.
- Integrate bots with backend applications, databases, CRMs, and third-party systems such as booking, payment, or content platforms.
- Work with webhooks, platform rate constraints, and message formats including interactive messages, buttons, media, and templates.
- Review AI-generated bot code, improve it for accuracy and maintainability, and add robust error handling.
- Set up logging, monitoring, and recovery measures so deployed bots remain stable.
Experience and technical requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in backend development, integrations, automation, or bot engineering.
- At least 1 year of practical experience building bots for major messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, Slack, or similar.
- Strong programming ability in Python or Node.js for bot and backend logic.
- Good working knowledge of REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth, and asynchronous request handling.
- Experience using relational or NoSQL databases to store conversation state and user information.
- Exposure to LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic, along with prompt design for conversational use, is a strong advantage.
- Understanding of platform restrictions, message templates, and approval workflows, including WhatsApp template messaging.
- Experience deploying applications using Docker, serverless setups, VPS environments, or PaaS platforms.
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail and a focus on reliability.
- Portfolio or examples of bots previously built are required.
- English level of upper-intermediate (B2) or higher is required.
Working time and engagement
This project is expected to involve around 10 to 20 hours per week during active phases. The workload is only an estimate and is not guaranteed; it applies while the project is active.
Compensation and benefits
Contributors on this project may earn up to the equivalent of $60 per hour, depending on skill level and pace of contribution. Compensation can differ from one project to another based on scope, complexity, and expertise required.
- Fully remote work with flexible scheduling.
- Opportunity to work in a hybrid environment where AI agents and human expertise collaborate closely.
- Access to performance-based bonus programs for strong quality and consistent delivery.
Additional notes
A laptop and stable internet connection are needed to perform the work.
The role is freelance and part-time, and the assignment is tied to the Tendem project.
