Digital Elements, LLC is looking for a Junior Web Developer to support its web development team with day-to-day website maintenance, basic development work, optimization tasks, and quality assurance across client sites and other digital properties. The position is centered on WordPress upkeep, front-end content and layout edits, plugin maintenance, lightweight performance improvements, and security reviews, while also offering exposure to more advanced build work as experience grows.

This is a practical, execution-focused role. It is not intended for someone already operating at a senior development or architecture level. The company is seeking someone who pays attention to detail, follows processes closely, works comfortably in WordPress, and is interested in building stronger technical skills within an agency setting.

This is a remote role.

Core responsibilities

The role includes routine WordPress maintenance, basic front-end editing, speed and security checks, hosting support, and assistance on website builds. Work is expected to be completed carefully, documented clearly, and escalated when more advanced technical judgment is required.

WordPress maintenance

• Handle regular updates for WordPress plugins, themes, and core files.
• Check sites after updates for visual, functional, or performance-related issues.
• Work with WordPress template structure, child themes, and simple database backup or migration tasks in staging environments.
• Support troubleshooting for plugin conflicts, theme issues, PHP-related errors, and configuration problems.
• Follow internal procedures for updates, backups, staging, QA, and escalation.

Front-end website edits

• Make simple content and layout changes using HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript.
• Update text, images, buttons, links, forms, and other page elements.
• Assist with responsive fixes for desktop, tablet, and mobile layouts.
• Implement small design changes under guidance from senior team members.
• Keep edits clean, functional, and aligned with the current site structure.

Speed optimization

• Carry out basic website performance improvements using established processes.
• Assist with image compression, cache checks, plugin reviews, and performance cleanup.
• Use tools such as Google PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, GTmetrix, or similar services to identify issues.
• Record optimization work and escalate more complex speed concerns to senior developers.
• Help improve load times and overall user experience.

Security and site health

• Perform basic security audits and general website health checks.
• Look for outdated plugins, vulnerable components, unusual administrator accounts, SSL problems, and site warnings.
• Help verify backups and assess readiness before updates.
• Run QA after updates, security changes, and bug fixes.
• Escalate higher-risk security or technical issues when needed.

Hosting, CDN, and technical support

• Work within hosting environments, preferably WPEngine.
• Assist with staging-to-production processes, backups, cache clearing, and environment checks.
• Support basic Cloudflare tasks such as cache clearing, DNS review, SSL validation, and CDN troubleshooting.
• Help with redirects, broken links, form testing, and launch-related support.
• Coordinate with internal teammates to ensure requests are completed correctly.

Website build support

• Support senior developers on new website builds as skills develop.
• Build pages from approved designs using WordPress tools, templates, or page builders.
• Assist with theme customization and child theme updates where appropriate.
• Participate in QA, launch preparation, and post-launch corrections.
• Take on progressively larger development tasks with guidance over time.

Qualifications

• Practical experience working with WordPress.
• Working understanding of WordPress template hierarchy, child themes, and staging environments.
• Basic experience with database backups and migrations.
• Working knowledge of PHP at a basic level.
• Strong command of HTML and CSS.
• Basic understanding of JavaScript.
• Ability to make simple website changes and troubleshoot common WordPress issues.
• Comfort using the WordPress admin area and page-building tools.
• Strong attention to detail and a habit of following SOPs closely.
• Clear written communication and documentation skills.
• Willingness to learn agency workflows and respond well to feedback.

Preferred background

• Experience with WPEngine.
• Experience working with Cloudflare.
• Familiarity with WordPress page builders such as Elementor, Beaver Builder, WPBakery, Divi, or Gutenberg blocks.
• Experience using speed tools like Google PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse, GTmetrix, or WebPageTest.
• Working knowledge of caching, image optimization, redirects, SSL certificates, DNS basics, responsive design, accessibility basics, and SEO fundamentals.
• Exposure to Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager.
• Exposure to Git or other version control systems.
• Experience managing multiple websites or client accounts.
• Previous work in an agency, freelance, or digital marketing environment.
