Manager IT Server & Storage Technology

Role overview

This position is responsible for shaping, delivering, and running the server, storage, and data centre technology landscape that supports critical IT services at HIA. The role focuses on building resilient, secure, and scalable infrastructure that can support current requirements while also preparing for future airport expansion. It also requires close attention to cost efficiency through standardization, right-sizing, and strong use of available technology resources.

Key responsibilities

• Define the medium- and long-term technology direction for server and storage platforms used at HIA, including virtualization, hyperconverged infrastructure, server operating systems and hardware, SAN and NAS storage, backup and recovery, and public, private, and hybrid cloud solutions.
• Track new industry developments in server, storage, and data protection technologies, assess their value to the organization, and recommend options that improve passenger experience, protect information assets, and strengthen the IT environment.
• Lead the administration, operations, maintenance, support, and documentation of IT systems managed by MATAR IT, while ensuring access to production systems is controlled in line with identity and access management requirements.
• Set and manage performance goals for the server and storage function, supported by performance reviews and development plans that encourage strong output and a high-performance culture.
• Offer technical advice and hands-on guidance to team members and other technical groups.
• Continuously review infrastructure trends and drive design enhancements or upgrades before service reliability or performance is affected.
• Create deployment standards based on application tiering, review both existing and new application designs, and make sure deployments align with the defined tier standards.
• Ensure server and storage environments are hardened and kept performant by identifying, evaluating, testing, and implementing security patches, operating system updates, and vendor software/firmware releases where required.
• Make sure all related procedures and processes are properly documented, implemented, and followed in accordance with corporate IT policies and ISO 20000 and ISO 27001 standards.
• Own assigned contracts, run periodic service reviews with external vendors, maintain strong supplier relationships, and ensure licenses are used efficiently.
• Prepare the annual budget for assigned systems and services by considering business needs, operational demand, capacity planning, technology refresh needs, and obsolescence.
• Carry out other duties related to the role as directed by the Head of Department.

Qualifications and experience

• A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification is required.
• At least 8 years of experience in a senior, lead, or manager-level role with a strong emphasis on data centre, server, and storage technologies.
• Proven background in designing and delivering server and storage solutions in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Strong knowledge of disaster recovery design, including RPO and RTO, together with enterprise backup and recovery solutions.
• Experience working with cloud architectures, cloud platforms, and hybrid cloud integration.
• Relevant technology and data centre certifications are required, including professional credentials such as VMware, Nutanix, Red Hat, or Microsoft Azure.
• Practical experience in server and storage solution design and implementation.
• Experience migrating IT services between data centres.
• Broad understanding of networking, data centre operations, virtualization, cloud, backup, and storage technologies.
• Hands-on exposure to IBM FS9200, HP 3PAR, IBM V7000, DS8800, HP MSA, IBM SVC, or similar platforms.
• Ability to administer Brocade SAN Directors or equivalent SAN infrastructure.
• Experience with data protection tools such as IBM Tivoli, HP Data Protector, or Symantec NetBackup.
• Familiarity with ITIL-based service delivery, ISO 20000, and ISO 27001 standards.
