Role overview

This opportunity is for a commercially minded and technically strong Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a building engineering services team in Wellington. The role sits within a global professional services organisation known for working on major projects and delivering practical solutions that improve communities and the built environment.

The position offers the chance to contribute to a wide range of building services work across commercial, healthcare, residential, transport, data-centre and public-use projects. It includes both technical delivery and support for business growth activities.

What you will do

You will help the building services leadership team promote the organisation’s capabilities wherever suitable opportunities arise, with the goal of supporting new income streams for the broader team.

As part of the national team, you will take the lead on preparing bids and proposals, complete project profiles to support future opportunities, and help maintain capability statements that strengthen future work-winning efforts.

Your project work will span HVAC and chilled-water systems, ventilation, smoke control, medical gases, plumbing and drainage, acoustic and vibration design, and coordination with other building services disciplines.

You will be involved from early concept design through detailed modelling, documentation, equipment selection, cross-discipline coordination, site inspections and commissioning. The work includes both new construction and complex refurbishment or upgrade projects, offering technical variety and the opportunity to improve building performance, sustainability and occupant comfort.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, and be a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng).

You should have at least 12 years of professional experience in Building Services or a closely related field. Strong market relationships are important, especially within Health, Private Developers, Local Government and/or Data Centres.

A current clean driver’s licence is also required.
