Role Summary

The Financial Controller is a full-time hybrid position in Toronto, Ontario, with some flexibility to work from home. This role covers daily full-cycle accounting responsibilities, including general ledger oversight, preparation and review of financial statements, and the delivery of accurate, timely reporting. The position also supports cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis that helps guide client decisions.

In addition, the role involves strengthening internal controls, supporting audits, maintaining compliance with applicable standards and regulations, and improving processes and reporting through a data-driven approach. The controller will work closely with internal colleagues and client stakeholders to explain financial results, solve issues, and support long-term planning.

About the Work

• Manage end-to-end accounting activities, including day-to-day ledger maintenance and full-cycle accounting.
• Prepare and examine balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and related financial reports.
• Oversee financial reporting to ensure it is accurate, complete, and delivered on schedule.
• Support cash flow monitoring, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
• Analyze financial information to identify trends and provide practical recommendations.
• Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes.
• Assist with audit-related activities and compliance requirements.
• Communicate financial performance and key issues to internal teams and client contacts.
• Contribute to financial planning and decision support for clients.

Qualifications

• Strong grounding in accounting and full-cycle accounting, including general ledger management and working knowledge of accounting principles and standards, sales tax, EHT, WSIB, and payroll.
• Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing financial statements such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
• Solid finance and reporting skills, with the ability to produce precise reports for both internal and external audiences.
• Strong analytical ability to interpret financial data, spot patterns, and turn findings into useful recommendations.
• Experience using financial systems, ERP platforms, and spreadsheets; familiarity with data tools and AI-supported workflows is a plus.
• CPA or an equivalent professional designation, along with a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related discipline.
• Background in a controller or senior accounting/finance position, ideally in multi-client environments or high-growth companies.
• Clear communication, strong attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a hybrid setting.
