Graduate Software Engineer

Role overview

Tricel is hiring a Graduate Software Engineer to join its growing technology team in Killarney, County Kerry. This opportunity is suited to a recent graduate who is enthusiastic about software development, enjoys solving problems, and wants to gain practical experience in a fast-growing international business.

You will work with experienced engineers on real systems and projects, helping to create, improve, and maintain software that supports day-to-day operations and future expansion. The position is based at Head Office in Killarney, Co. Kerry, and reports to the IT Manager.

This role is intended for an immediate start. The selected candidate should also be open to relocating to a sister company for up to 6 months if required.

Graduate programme outcomes

By the end of the 2-year Graduate Programme, you are expected to have gained international work experience, a qualification relevant to your area, in-house auditor training, and 2 years of work experience.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, build, and testing of software applications.
• Work with colleagues across different functions to deliver new features and improvements.
• Develop clear, maintainable, and efficient code with support from senior team members.
• Help investigate issues and debug applications when problems arise.
• Support efforts to improve software performance, quality, and reliability.
• Take part in code reviews and team conversations that encourage learning and shared standards.
• Assist with technical documentation and adoption of best practices.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related subject.
• Working knowledge of programming languages, especially Java; experience with Spring Boot is a plus.
• Basic understanding of databases such as SQL and PL/SQL.
• Exposure to tools or concepts like Docker, Azure, or Linux is desirable.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines is an advantage.
• Strong analytical thinking and careful attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
• Self-driven, eager to learn, and committed to professional growth.
