Role Overview

ecobee is seeking a Program Manager to join its Program Management team, where you will help deliver sophisticated software and hardware initiatives for smart energy and home security solutions. In this role, you will work closely with engineering, product, design, research, manufacturing, and go-to-market teams to turn product direction into clear execution plans. You will keep cross-functional teams aligned on deliverables, highlight risks early, and help ensure technical work translates into business results.

The position focuses on building repeatable, scalable processes that support reliable delivery without limiting innovation. Programs may move from early concept work through production readiness and launch.

Work Arrangement

This is a hybrid position. On-site presence is required on Wednesdays and Thursdays, along with additional in-office time when collaboration or program execution requires it.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will manage program execution across multiple functions and keep delivery moving from planning through launch.

  • Lead the full planning cycle for programs, including timelines, milestones, dependencies, and delivery tracking in line with the ecobee Product Development Process.
  • Coordinate work across hardware engineering, product management, manufacturing, and go-to-market teams to bring hardware and software initiatives to completion.
  • Monitor progress against plan and raise schedule, technical, and resourcing concerns as soon as they appear.
  • Develop strong relationships across teams and support clear communication between groups.
  • Create and share recurring updates, reports, and summaries for stakeholders and leadership.
  • Keep schedules, program documents, and action logs current, organized, and accurate.
  • Identify technical and timeline risks and work with the right teams to reduce or resolve them.
  • Partner with product management to understand requirements and keep execution tied to product objectives.
  • Work with manufacturing teams to support hardware integration and production-readiness milestones.
  • Act as a central communication contact for senior leadership on program status and issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Background in program or project management across several technical functions.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 3 years of program management experience working directly with hardware and software engineering teams.
  • Proven success delivering complex hardware programs from concept to production.
  • Strong technical program management ability with a focus on cross-functional alignment.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Smartsheet.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort participating in technical discussions and weighing trade-offs and constraints.
  • Experience creating and improving processes that can scale and last.

Preferred Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Exposure to consumer IoT, home security, or energy-related products.
  • Familiarity with software and firmware development practices and end-to-end development teams, including embedded and mobile work.
  • Ability to break down complex technical issues and propose practical, innovative solutions.
  • Experience thriving in collaborative, team-oriented environments and helping lead within them.
  • PMP certification.

Compensation and Benefits

The Toronto-based salary range for this role is CAD 95,000 to CAD 115,000. Final pay will depend on factors such as experience, skills, certifications, and location. The position is also eligible for variable compensation, including short-term and long-term incentives.

Accessibility and Accommodation

The company supports fair and equitable compensation practices and is committed to accessibility for Canadians with disabilities. Policies related to human rights, accessibility, and accommodation are in place, and accessibility training is provided to employees during orientation and/or on an ongoing basis as required by provincial legislation such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005. Candidates who need accommodation during the hiring process or in future employment, or who have questions about these policies, may contact askHR@generac.com.
