Internship Overview
MLSE is looking for a Software Engineer Intern who wants practical experience developing modern web applications. This role is suited to someone who enjoys learning, wants exposure to both client-side and server-side work, and is interested in full-stack development as well as AI-assisted engineering workflows.
The internship term runs from September 8, 2026 to December 18, 2026.
What You Will Do
- Support the build, testing, and upkeep of web applications across both frontend and backend components.
- Create and improve interfaces with React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS while working with senior engineers.
- Help develop and connect REST APIs and backend services using Node.js or comparable tools.
- Produce code that is readable, maintainable, and documented in line with internal standards.
- Assist with debugging, issue investigation, and software fixes.
- Take part in testing work, including unit tests and broader quality checks.
- Use AI-enabled development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Replit AI to support learning, coding, and troubleshooting.
- Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver product features.
- Join code reviews, team discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Learn and apply development processes, engineering tools, and best practices.
What MLSE Is Looking For
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Some exposure to software development through classes, personal projects, hackathons, internships, or open-source work.
- Basic familiarity with frontend technologies such as React, JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
- Some understanding of backend development with Node.js, Express, or similar frameworks.
- Awareness of core web concepts such as APIs and client-server architecture.
- Comfort using Git and version control workflows.
- Introductory knowledge of databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or similar systems.
- Strong analytical thinking and a willingness to learn.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Interest in AI-assisted development tools and modern software engineering practices.
Nice-to-Have Experience
- Personal, academic, or hackathon projects built with React and Node.js.
- Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with Docker or container-based development.
- Experience with testing tools such as Jest, Playwright, or Cypress.
- Exposure to AI applications, LLM APIs, or machine learning projects.
- Involvement in open-source work, coding competitions, or technical communities.
Compensation
The posted compensation range for this role is $38,760.
