About the Company

MWD Creative is a Toronto-based creative agency that builds memorable brand experiences rather than ordinary events. For more than 20 years, the team has produced award-winning activations for globally recognized names across luxury, beauty, fashion, and premium consumer sectors.

The agency’s work spans experiential marketing, graphic design, 3D design, pop-up production, fashion show production, backstage coordination, and styling. Its studio culture is highly collaborative, detail-driven, and focused on pushing creative boundaries.

About the Role

The Art Director will define the visual direction for immersive brand experiences, pop-ups, creative mailers, and content-led campaigns. The role covers physical spaces, digital extensions, and campaign assets, with the goal of creating work that is visually strong, culturally current, and emotionally engaging.

This position suits a designer with refined taste, a luxury-leaning aesthetic, and a strong ability to notice and shape the small details that make an experience feel polished and authentic. You will help turn brand strategy into cohesive visual worlds, from early concept development through production and final installation.

The role requires someone who can move comfortably between different brands, industries, and creative styles while staying informed about pop culture, social behaviour, fashion, design, and global creative trends that influence real-world brand engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver creative concepts for experiential spaces, pop-ups, custom fabrication, print, digital, social, and content-based work.
  • Lead the visual identity for brand activations, including spatial storytelling, environment styling, graphics, materials, and content moments.
  • Create detailed mood boards covering imagery, colour direction, typography, textures, materials, lighting, motion cues, and styling references.
  • Translate brand strategy into immersive physical experiences that remain consistent across signage, props, graphics, product display, finishes, and interactive elements.
  • Work closely with graphic designers, 3D designers, and producers so the concept is carried through renderings, fabrication, graphics, and final install.
  • Prepare and present pitch decks, creative proposals, and visual presentations for internal reviews and client meetings.
  • Be involved during key production stages and installs to protect the creative vision through to completion.
  • Track shifts in culture, design, social behaviour, and emerging creative tools to keep the agency’s output fresh and leading-edge.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in a creative agency or in-house setting working on experiential, retail, branding, or integrated campaigns.
  • A portfolio demonstrating immersive thinking, visual storytelling, and the ability to move from concept to execution; applications without a portfolio will not be considered.
  • Strong attention to detail and a clear appreciation for the small choices that make an environment feel authentic and elevated.
  • Solid design instincts with capability in layout, branding, typography, composition, and visual hierarchy.
  • Experience creating pitch decks and confidently presenting creative ideas to both internal teams and clients.
  • Ability to manage multiple brands and concepts at the same time while adapting visual style without losing quality.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain visual ideas clearly while giving creative direction.
  • A collaborative working style, with comfort leading creatives and incorporating feedback into evolving concepts.
  • Strong interest in art, design, fashion, culture, and experiential storytelling.

Perks and Benefits

  • Vacation entitlement increases with tenure: 2 weeks in the first year, 3 weeks for 2 to 5 years, and 4 weeks after 5 years.
  • 10 paid statutory holidays.
  • Up to 3 paid sick days per calendar year.
  • Company-paid group benefits, with full coverage starting after the 90-day probation period.
  • No employee contribution toward group benefits premiums.
  • Training and development support, including resources for skill-building and career growth, with time away from work when required.
  • Internal advancement opportunities, with vacancies posted internally first.
  • Flexible dress code.
  • Supportive, collaborative culture that values constructive input and different viewpoints.
  • Employee referral program.
  • Reimbursement of reasonable business travel expenses.
  • Meal reimbursement when extra time is worked.
  • Mileage reimbursement for business travel.
  • Reimbursement for parking, tolls, and courier charges related to work.
  • Regular team events and community activities.
  • Strong focus on work-life balance and the importance of time off for rest and recreation.
