Role overview
DTI is seeking a consultant to shape learning pathways and competency frameworks for key roles within a large public healthcare system. The assignment is focused on improving employee growth, engagement, and organizational strength by defining the skills, behaviors, and progression steps needed across priority positions and two core disciplines.
The engagement is based in Chicago, IL, with a remote working setup and travel limited to under 25% when required.
What you will do
- Interview stakeholders to determine which roles should be prioritized for career path and learning path development.
- Examine current training materials, job descriptions, and job architecture references to assess how they can support pathing work.
- Build tailored career pathways and advancement maps for selected roles.
- Pinpoint learning options and training needs that support movement along those pathways.
- Develop assessment approaches that measure skill level and readiness for internal mobility.
- Review and confirm pathway designs with subject matter experts and other stakeholders.
- Create competency frameworks for designated disciplines and professional or clinical areas.
- Gather input from SMEs and study relevant materials to define required capabilities, behaviors, expertise, and development milestones.
- Design self-assessment and peer-assessment tools that align with the competency models.
- Validate the competency frameworks through stakeholder collaboration.
- Assist with the creation of short-form, microlearning-style training content related to competencies and skills when needed.
Qualifications and experience
- Excellent active listening and empathy, with the ability to understand business context, operational realities, constraints, and strategic goals.
- Comfort leading decisions among varied stakeholders in complex or unclear situations.
- Strong precision and the ability to craft customized solutions from structured analysis.
- Adaptable and steady in fast-changing environments with shifting priorities.
- Outcome-driven approach with a history of delivering to deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation delivery and storytelling.
- Proven ability to earn trust and collaborate with both senior leaders and frontline teams.
- Background in career development, talent management, or organizational development.
- Experience building or refining career paths, competency models, and learning pathways.
- Experience supporting talent pipeline development.
- Ability to produce content quickly through iterative development methods.
- Experience creating assessments, skills gap analyses, self-assessments, and peer review tools.
- Capability to interpret and visualize data, draw insights, and prepare client-ready reports and presentations.
- Strong understanding of career pathing frameworks and best practices.
- Strong understanding of job architecture and organizational design.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional design.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Behavior, Organizational Development, Leadership, Learning and Development, Instructional Design, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Preferred: experience working with senior leaders or in a corporate setting.
- Preferred: experience engaging executive stakeholders and adjusting communication for different audiences.
- Preferred: direct exposure to healthcare, hospital, or clinical workforce environments.
- Preferred: familiarity with learning management systems, virtual training tools, and e-learning solutions.
- Preferred: advanced degree or professional certifications such as ATD, SHRM, HRCI, or instructional design credentials.
Work environment and additional details
- Remote work arrangement with less than 25% travel to Chicago, IL.
- Travel expenses that are incurred will be reimbursed.
- Contract duration is 17 weeks.
