Platform Engineer, CloudOps Infrastructure

Role overview

Iambic is creating a secure, cloud-based environment to power its machine-learning driven drug discovery pipelines. In this role, you will take ownership of the platform that supports reliable and repeatable execution of ML workloads, including environment templates, orchestration for model training and inference, and the CI/CD, observability, and operational tooling that keep the system healthy.

This position combines hands-on cloud operations with platform engineering. You will support the running system every day while also evolving it as researchers introduce new models and workflows. The role is based in the company’s new Ireland office.

Location and employment

The position is based in Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, at the Dublin office. Employment is full time and the working model is hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain secure, standardized deployment templates that are easy to reproduce.
• Build and run the orchestration layer, including workflow tooling such as Prefect, along with GPU-enabled compute paths for scheduled and on-demand training and inference.
• Own infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, and the operational tooling used to provision, update, and retire environments in a controlled and auditable way.
• Design observability across environments through metrics, logs, and alerts so platform health is always visible.
• Operate and continuously improve the platform in day-to-day DevOps/CloudOps work, with an emphasis on stability, predictability, and minimal operational overhead.
• Work with the information security team to strengthen infrastructure security posture.
• Translate new research requirements into repeatable platform capabilities as ML teams adopt new workflows and models.
• Assess orchestration and deployment tools, prototype promising approaches, and then harden the patterns that prove effective.
• Take part in architecture discussions, code reviews, and documentation efforts.

Requirements

• Strong hands-on engineering experience with Terraform or OpenTofu, plus practical work with AWS or a similar cloud platform.
• Production experience with containers, orchestration platforms such as ECS, and CI/CD systems.
• Comfort building and operating reproducible infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code.
• Good understanding of distributed systems fundamentals.
• Strong operational judgment around observability, troubleshooting, and maintainability.
• Prior experience with multi-tenant or large-scale fleet platforms is a plus.
• Exposure to workflow orchestration tools such as Prefect, Airflow, Dagster, or similar, and/or GPU compute platforms is preferred.
• Familiarity with GPU-backed environments and machine-learning training/inference pipelines is preferred.
• Awareness of infrastructure security practices and compliance frameworks such as ISO/IEC 27001 is preferred.
• Excellent written communication and the ability to collaborate effectively across a distributed team.

Tech stack and environment

The environment includes Terraform/OpenTofu and Terragrunt for infrastructure-as-code, AWS services including ECS, containerized CI/CD, PostgreSQL, S3 object storage, Python with modern tooling such as uv and pixi, workflow orchestration such as Prefect, GPU-backed compute for ML workloads, FastAPI with a clean service-layer design, and agentic coding tools such as Claude Code as part of everyday development.
