Tigrinya Language Expert

This remote contract role is for a Tigrinya language specialist who will contribute to the training of next-generation AI systems. The position focuses on delivering accurate, culturally aware language input that helps improve how models learn, reason, and respond. Prior AI experience is not required; strong subject-matter knowledge of Tigrinya is the key requirement.

Core responsibilities

• Convert, proofread, and refine Tigrinya content so it remains accurate, natural in tone, and appropriate to the cultural context.
• Assess, correct, and label language data used for AI model training and development.
• Share clear feedback that improves the quality of Tigrinya outputs produced by AI tools.
• Work with other language experts and project managers to complete milestones on schedule.
• Keep all Tigrinya materials uniform, easy to read, and precise.
• Spot linguistic subtleties, idiomatic usage, and regional differences to strengthen AI understanding.
• Maintain a high level of care and professionalism in both written and spoken communication.

Required profile

• Native-level or near-native command of Tigrinya, with strong writing and speaking ability.
• Hands-on background in translation, editing, and localization of Tigrinya-language material.
• Good linguistic judgment and familiarity with the cultural context of Tigrinya-speaking communities.
• Strong focus on detail and a consistent commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to explain observations and recommendations clearly in writing and verbally.
• Comfortable contributing in a collaborative, fast-moving remote setup.
• Technically adaptable and open to using language technology tools for AI training workflows.

Preferred background

Experience working as an AI trainer or in a similar language annotation role is an advantage. A degree or background in linguistics, computational linguistics, or a related discipline is also beneficial. Knowledge of additional regional languages or dialects is a plus.
