About the Role

The South Carolina Department of Education is looking for a data analytics and visualization developer who can help build modern, cloud-based reporting solutions that support statewide education initiatives. This role is part of the Office of Information Technology and is suited to someone who enjoys working with new technologies, solving complex data problems, and turning information into clear, useful insights for a mix of technical and non-technical audiences.

The selected candidate will work with large and complex datasets, verify data accuracy, create analysis-ready outputs, and deliver actionable reporting through advanced visualizations. Strong experience with data structures, coding, and data storytelling is important for success in this position.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, and support web-based reports and dashboards using business intelligence tools such as Power BI, Preset, Tableau, and SAS Portal.
• Convert complex data into clear, meaningful reports and visual outputs.
• Build and maintain reporting code, including program development, output validation, and delivery of reports to stakeholders.
• Develop reporting solutions that strengthen data accuracy, completeness, and connectivity.
• Meet with internal teams and external partners to gather needs, define questions, identify relevant data, and present findings in a practical way.
• Document repeatable processes for refreshing and maintaining recurring reports.
• Integrate enterprise applications with cloud data environments such as Azure and AWS, with attention to storage, processing, security, and access needs.
• Use Azure OpenAI where appropriate to add AI-enabled capabilities that improve application functionality and data analysis.
• Work closely with divisions and cross-functional teams to support agency-wide analysis and development efforts.

Requirements

• A high school diploma plus work experience in modifying and maintaining system programs, developing system software, or testing and debugging system software.
• An associate degree or bachelor’s degree in a related area may replace the required work experience.
• Ability to work with data visualization tools and analytics platforms.
• Ability to write and maintain code for reporting and data solutions.
• Strong analytical ability to identify data issues and improve reporting quality.
• Comfort collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Educational Statistics, Economics, Public Policy, Data Analytics, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• Hands-on expertise with business intelligence tools including Power BI, Preset, Tableau, and SAS Portal.
• Advanced knowledge of SQL and analytics tools such as SAS, R, and/or Python.
• Understanding of research design, data collection, data manipulation, data analysis, and information presentation.
• Ability to interpret complex data, identify quality problems, and build practical solutions.
• Interest in developing innovative reports that support data-informed decision-making across the state.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build productive working relationships with team members, executives, and partners.
