Role Overview

This is a full-time Project Manager position supporting mission-critical power-system projects. The role is based in Houston, Texas, with onsite work preferred; however, remote arrangements may be considered for the right candidate. The job requires around 40% travel during delivery, installation, and commissioning stages.

The position reports to the Projects Director, who in turn reports to the International Project Director in Europe. Each U.S. project is handled by a core team of four: the U.S. Project Manager in this role, a U.S. Project Engineer as the technical counterpart, plus a Project Manager and Project Engineer based in Europe. The Project Manager also works with several supplier project managers.

The company is expanding its project execution team to meet rising demand for critical power systems. Two to three Project Manager hires are planned, with active and upcoming work in Ohio, Idaho, Washington State, and Canada. This is a new growth hire rather than a replacement.

Compensation

Base pay is $110,000 to $140,000 per year, depending on experience. A full benefits package is included.

What the Role Is Responsible For

You will own projects from purchase order through final commissioning and handover at the customer site. The role is customer-facing and centered on making sure the company delivers exactly what was sold, on time and within budget.

In your first year, you are expected to manage two to three concurrent UPS power-system projects through all six phases of delivery. You will handle procurement, submittals, logistics, installation coordination, and startup support while keeping the customer informed and protected from risk.

Key Duties

Lead two to three overlapping UPS power-system projects and guide each one through the full lifecycle.
Run procurement end to end: request quotes, compare bids, choose compliant suppliers, negotiate pricing, and issue purchase orders within budget.
Collect supplier drawings into a complete submittal package, obtain customer sign-off, and release vendors for production on schedule.
Coordinate delivery planning and support customer-hired contractors during installation.
Visit project sites for spot checks about every couple of weeks to help protect equipment and keep work moving.
Work with the startup and commissioning team to bring systems online and close projects out successfully.
Act as the main customer contact and resolve problems early before they grow into larger issues.
Coordinate across internal teams and multiple suppliers to keep execution aligned.

Working Style and Fit

The ideal person is highly organized, able to see the full project picture, and skilled at identifying risks before they affect delivery. The company is looking for someone who can educate suppliers and contractors, translate technical requirements clearly, and operate with limited hand-holding.

You should remain calm under customer pressure, take ownership of issues, and work well with colleagues across regions. The environment values independent execution, strong judgment, and collaboration.

Team and Leadership

You will work for a Project Director with more than 26 years of experience in the industry. He began in this same role, later moved into project management and sales, ran his own competing business, and returned to the company several years ago. His leadership style is supportive and low-micromanagement: he expects professionals to run with their work, step in when something breaks, and let the team execute.

Requirements

Military service in the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Space Force, Reserves, or National Guard is required.
Experience managing complex projects from planning through execution is required.
Strong technical aptitude is needed; no single technical specialty is mandatory because the company provides system-specific training.
Ability to influence and coordinate people who do not report directly to you is important.
Comfort with approximately 40% travel across the U.S. and Canada during delivery, installation, and commissioning is required.
You must be comfortable serving as the customer-facing representative on projects.
Houston-based onsite work is preferred because the engineering and service teams are located there, though remote work may be possible for the right candidate.
