Role overview

This position is for a Software Engineer with a full-stack and web development focus, supporting work under the MCAT Frame Contract – Service Area B (OPTS). The assignment centers on designing, prototyping, and building web-based tools in partnership with technical officers and end users in a high-stakes operational setting.

In this role, you will go beyond coding and act as a technical partner, helping turn user requirements into software that is efficient, maintainable, and practical for EUMETSAT’s needs.

What you will do

• Create and maintain both front-end and back-end web applications.
• Build prototypes and turn user ideas into working solutions.
• Develop REST APIs and connect them with other systems to ensure smooth interoperability.
• Contribute to DevOps tasks such as automation, deployment support, and CI/CD pipeline work.
• Work closely with technical officers and internal users to understand requirements and real-world use cases.
• Adapt to an evolving technical landscape where frameworks and tools may change over time.

Required profile

• A university degree at BSc, MSc, or equivalent level in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a similar technical field.
• Strong hands-on experience in building web applications across both client-side and server-side layers.
• Good understanding of RESTful API design and implementation, with frameworks such as FastAPI or comparable tools.
• Working knowledge of modern programming languages and frameworks such as Java, Python, and React, with openness to framework flexibility.
• Practical DevOps experience, especially around automation, application setup, and CI/CD.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and users.
• A willingness to learn, test, and adopt new technologies as needed.
• English proficiency at minimum C1 level, both spoken and written, is mandatory.
• Knowledge of additional European languages is considered an advantage but is not required.

Eligibility and practical conditions

• You should either live within a 60-minute commute of the work location or be ready to relocate.
• A valid EU work permit or EU citizenship, enabling employment within the European Union, is required.
