Role Overview

LayerZero is hiring a Backend Engineer to help advance blockchain interoperability and contribute to the next generation of decentralized applications. In this role, you will build dependable, scalable backend infrastructure that supports the company’s web3 products and services.

What You Will Do

• Design and develop backend systems that are reliable, scalable, and suited for complex distributed environments.
• Write clean, maintainable, and thoroughly tested code.
• Work in a fast-moving startup setting, taking ownership and solving problems independently.
• Build systems that can handle extremely large transactional volumes with confidence.
• Stay curious, adapt quickly, and learn new technologies and architectural patterns as needed.
• Move comfortably across the technical stack and focus on solving problems rather than being limited by a specific toolset.
• Communicate technical ideas clearly and concisely to different audiences.
• Use strong analytical thinking and attention to detail to resolve engineering challenges.

What We’re Looking For

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in backend engineering, including building and supporting scalable production systems.
• Confidence in your technical judgment, along with openness to collaborate and refine solutions with others.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, especially for deploying, operating, and scaling applications.
• Solid proficiency in backend languages such as TypeScript.
• Familiarity with workflow engines.
• Exposure to blockchain, smart contracts, and decentralized finance is a strong advantage.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is between $120,000 and $200,000. Pay is determined by a combination of job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. LayerZero follows a total compensation approach, which may also include equity and other compensation elements, along with a comprehensive benefits package covering medical, financial, and other offerings.
