About the studio
Michael & Ruysch is a design practice with nine years of experience and a new phase of growth ahead. The business brings architecture and interior design together as one integrated service, led by three principals: registered architect and interior design lead Cailin Mackey, along with building designers Michael Ross and Haydn Ruysch. Their shared approach focuses on thoughtful, ambitious work that is built to endure.
Clients benefit from a unified creative direction across the entire journey, with architecture and interiors developed under one roof from the first idea through to the final detailing. The team works on premium residential work, including complex new builds, and every project reflects a distinct design point of view.
The studio is small, collaborative, and hands-on. You will work closely with the principals, contribute ideas that genuinely shape outcomes, and join a workplace that values both craftsmanship and momentum. The business is also entering an exciting growth stage, making this a strong opportunity for someone who wants to be part of a practice with real direction and influence.
Role overview
The studio is seeking a skilled and motivated Interior Designer to take a lead role across a varied residential portfolio. In this position, you will guide projects from early concept development through to final documentation, while working closely with the Director/Principal and supporting a small group of junior and mid-level designers.
This role suits someone with strong design thinking, excellent attention to detail, and solid technical capability, especially in Revit. You will contribute across high-end residential homes, multi-residential projects, new builds, and renovation work, helping deliver refined and well-resolved interiors.
Key responsibilities
- Shape interior design concepts for high-end residential, multi-residential, new build, and renovation projects
- Oversee design documentation from the concept stage through to construction issue
- Ensure a consistently high standard of design quality across all project stages
- Track timelines and coordinate deliverables with the wider project team
- Prepare detailed drawings, schedules, specifications, and finish boards using Revit
- Create polished presentation material such as mood boards, 3D visuals, and client-facing documents
- Work with builders, trades, and consultants to resolve technical and design details during construction
- Use Adobe Creative Suite and Programa for documentation, presentation, project administration, and procurement support
- Join the Director/Principal in client meetings and design presentations
- Explain design intent clearly to clients, builders, and suppliers
- Support a strong client experience through timely and professional communication
- Coach and assist junior and mid-level designers in everyday project work
- Review drawings, concepts, and documentation, and give constructive feedback
- Help strengthen studio standards, templates, and workflows
- Contribute to a studio culture built on learning, curiosity, and design discipline
Candidate profile
The team is focused more on the strength of your work and the quality of your thinking than on the length of your resume. If your portfolio demonstrates strong capability, you are encouraged to apply.
Requirements

- Strong residential interior design background supported by a varied portfolio

- Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- Experience with Programa for project management and procurement
- Sharp attention to detail in both design development and documentation
