Position Overview
The Port Elizabeth branch is looking for a Junior Technical Advisor to strengthen the local sales team. Reporting to the Sales Manager, this role supports sales growth through baking demonstrations, customer training, technical guidance, and product presentation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare baked goods and demonstrate finished products across assigned channels, while teaching customers how to use the company’s products.
- Partner closely with the sales team to help achieve sales targets.
- Produce all products to a high standard.
- Coach and support new team members as well as colleagues within the department.
- Train customer bakers on product usage and application.
- Present finished goods to groups of at least ten people and promote solution-based selling.
- Support business growth together with the sales team.
- Plan and carry out daily and weekly bakery production, then implement it at store level.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Provide technical advice where needed.
- Be willing to sleep away from home when required.
- Train and facilitate groups of up to 25 people and manage the group effectively.
- Develop new and creative products using existing and newly developed products.
- Perform well under pressure during shows, presentations, and store openings.
- Present to varied audiences, including management, internal teams, and bakers.
- Calculate, teach, and implement costings at store level.
- Apply baking knowledge using baker’s percentage and recipe formulation.
- Handle other duties aligned to operational needs.
Requirements
- Grade 12.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- At least 8 years’ experience as a baker and confectioner, including a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role; managerial exposure is an advantage.
- B2B experience is beneficial.
- Experience in the food sector or FMCG environment is an advantage.
- Strong computer skills, especially in MS Office, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Sound arithmetic ability with the capacity to calculate and teach store-level costing.
- Ability to work beyond standard hours, including occasional overtime.
- Strong presentation and facilitation ability.
- Excellent English communication skills, including reading and writing; additional languages are an advantage.
- Good written comprehension and the ability to understand information communicated through speech and text.
- Professional traits including hard work, teamwork, service orientation, creativity, innovation, trustworthiness, and openness to feedback.
- Competence in collaboration, communication, performance focus, training and facilitation, continuous improvement, and customer relationship management.
